Anyone updated to iOS 5? Recently i updated the Goodreader app and I lost all my bookmarks. A bit scared that my other apps will go haywire

Updated my rig to 10.7.2 and then updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5.

Everything works great except for a few useless apps ... probably bcos they are not iOS 5 compatible ?

All of my movies and music videos in AVPlayerHD were gone too so I just need to re-transfer them over again.

Upgrading to a new iOS involves wiping your iPad clean & installing the new iOS. Like formatting your PC or Mac clean to install an OS.

To get back the data stored in the previous OS, you would have backed up your iPad in iTunes & restore when activating your iPad with iOS 5.

I have been having problems updating my ipad.
It gives me this error:

ipad cannot be restored. device isn't eligible for requested build
I've searched online and followed some instructions on editing the "hosts" file to remove the gs server thingy, but the problem still persists.

Quite irritating, cos everytime I try to update, I'll have to wait for it to backup my iPad, which takes quite some time.

ok managed to solve the problem liao.
Realised i didn't replace the host file properly previously.
You do a check on gs.apple.com
If it returns a 404 invalid page, then it should be fine.
Previously it actually went to Cydia store.

Those updating with this error message:
"The iPhone could not be updated. This device isn't eligible for the requested build"

Solution: Succesfully updtaed my ipad 2 on my iMac

edit host file on OSX.

Here is the fix:

On finder under the go menu select go to folder and type /etc/ then look for hosts right click to open with text edit and this is what you should see.

##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost

delete this entry : (74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com) this which comes after localhost

if you're having trouble editing the hosts file, make a copy on your desktop then edit and save and replace the one from the /etc/ folder. Or you can rename the original host file and copy the revised host file over
