getting ipad2 in HK

Is it really cheaper to get ipad2 in HK? I'll be heading there next month.

If i get the 3G set there, will there be chances that it's not able to use it in Spore?

Warranty i presume is international right?

i read that apple needs to see the custom declaration form before they allow warranty on the iPad. not sure if its true.

if i declare to customs, they tax me then it defeats the purpose of getting in HK. it adds up to probably slightly cheaper.

Your 3G can work on SG right? don't need to unlock or what?

I got my iPad 2 in macau. 32gb wifi 3G version. Cost me slightly less than 920. Compare to sg apple store price, it is cheaper by 50 buck. Actually I ask around the reseller in hong kong and Macau, they mentioned that iPad 3G is international warranty provided the country you residing also have this version. Nothing I can do if they bluff me. :-) anyway, you can go to changi terminal 3 to buy the iPad as there is a reseller there. I believe it is called istudio. Cheapest price in Singapore as it will discount the 7% gst. Only 2 issue with this, provided they have stock and only if you are outbound of Singapore.

Of course you will get taxed if they randomly check you and you have buy over a certain amount. Especially electronics, they can tax you 7% if it's still brand new because they may think you import it to sell. Else those who are in a group buy 20 LV bags from london why need to separate? Why can't 20 bags all out into a single bag?

I think the tax depends on product. I think electronics will tax ba. Dunno if it's the same or slightly cheaper then no point getting in HK.

Thanks guys..

custom won't tax you if you open the Ipad purchase, dispose or unfold the box. It is so common now to carry ipad or laptop when you travel. One of my friend bought 3 iPads, unbox and never get tax when she got back from HKG
For GST tax, anything more than S$400 need to pay 7% GST if you import in for example you buy product/clothing online and mail to sg. One of my friend bought a branded bag in London airport but forgot to remove the papae bag (in mint condition), stop by custom and have to pay tax. I guess you need to be smart to avoid the gst tax. unwrap all you buy and "use" them or put inside your luggage

You can buy at $1060 or even $1040 if you bargain hard, check the marketplace in the forum.

-Hk ipad 2 definetly comes with international warranty
-yes cheaper by about $100 SGD
-after you buy, please go to mongkok ladies street to buy ipad2 accessories at super crazy cheap price as compared to SG
-put ur ipad2 into ur newly bought case or leather sleeves
-bring into SG hand carry. no gst tax or whatsoever

EDIT: forgot to mention, please go to offical apple shop in HK and not those ah beng shops in nathan road, mongkok computer centre etc. Cuz they mark up the price due to high demand.

One smart way to go around ur HK ipad hunt, will be to research all HK apple shop numbers first. reach hk liao, get a HK sim card and call them 1 by 1 before going to the shop. have fun
