I got the same brown leather smart case. Enjoying it. Fantastic leather material and smell

May I ask how stiff is the leather at the back? Kinda on the fence about how tough is the cover at that back.

Stiff and firm. Definitely enough to protect. If anyone thinking of getting the Smart Cover, I will definitely recommend getting the case instead. Leather material and protect the back and side fully.

But if u prefer a minimalist look, this may add a tad too much depth. To each his own.

I'm more worried about if it would protect against drops first and foremost.

I would think that it definitely protect against drop for back and side. For front depends on whether cover opens and trajectory of the drop! If not because I have a black leather apple smart case for my iPad 3 3G I would have gotten the black as well. )

Just gotten the apple smart case... The feel is good... And it provides all side protection which is what I need... Although it adds a bit of weight but still manageable...
