It depends on your requirement. If you love lightweight and portability, then mini 4 but remember that it has only an A8 processor which is not very good for games. The current 2018 iPad is a different thing, a more powerful A10 processor and also the ability to support Apple Pencil is a plus for taking notes quickly.

My suggestion is the 2018 iPad and couple it with the pencil if you require it. I have the mini 4 and recently upgraded to the 10.5” Pro (I know it’s a bit late since Pro models are getting a refresh soon, and also a bday present from my wife) but it’s very worth it. The mini 4 is considered an old model (launched in 2015) so it might not be a wise choice unless you die die portability is of utmost importance.

Hope this helps.

No problem, the current iPad is still a better choice in terms of performance. But the mini 4 is still the only iPad that has the highest pixel density of 326ppi, compared to the rest at 264ppi.

But looking closely at both, can’t really see the difference.

Getting the 9.7 inch 2018 will be much more worth for the value you’re getting for minus that you wouldn’t mind the bigger size.

What’s more is that it feels more comfortable should you use Split Screen on the 9.7 inch iPad.

EDIT:
Use Multitasking on your iPad

The new iPad 9.7 inch is a great and entry level iPad, especially now with the Apple Pencil support. Get a Bluetooth keyboard and it can almost perform as like the Pro models.

There might probably be refreshed iPad Pro models (the 10.5 and 12.9 inch) announced during WWDC (like last year) but there is no official word yet.

WWDC will take place on June 4th (San Francisco time).
