[Official] iOS 13.5 Discussions (Exposure Notifications)

As of 0114, 2020-05-21, TraceTogether has not been updated to support the latest APIs.

What is Exposure Notification?

Exposure Notification is a new feature that will be introduced in the upcoming iOS 13.5. It is a feature introduced by Apple to help inform people of potential exposure to Covid-19.

Will I have to turn on location permissions for this to work?
No, you do not have to turn on location permissions for Exposure Notification to work.

Then how does this work?
It leverages on Bluetooth tokens that your device issues and exchanges with other compatible devices.

Who will have access to these data?
It will be stored on device.
No data will be shared by the system with anyone unless one of the following two scenario takes place ó

ē If a user chooses to report a positive diagnosis of COVID-19 to their contact tracing app
ē If a user is notified through their app that they have come into contact with an individual who is positive for COVID-19

Will the user have the option of turning it off?
Yes

When will this update be available?
Today. Update your iOS by heading to Settings -> General -> Software Update

Which devices will get updated?
The update with exposure notification will be available for devices from iPhone 6S and up

I want to take part
You to download an app from a health authority, in our case. It's most likely TraceTogether (provided they have updated the App to leverage on the latest API).

TraceTogether

Will TraceTogether work with this API?
This depends on whether TraceTogether gets updated with the new API.
As of 0114, 2020-05-21, TraceTogether has not been updated to support the latest APIs.

How will this update change the way TraceTogether works?
You'll no longer need to leave your device's screen turned on for Exposure Notification to work. This renders you to have a longer battery life.

I want to help!
You have to continue leaving your screen turned on until TraceTogether updates their App to leverage on the new API.
Once TraceTogether is updated, you can find the controls for this under Settings -> Privacy -> Health

Installed GM iOS13.5 but our TraceTogether app still never use Apple/Google API, itís still donít work in background. So sad. ☹️ Under COVID-19 exposure logging is still off as trace together still not compatible therefore installed but not launching it until they use Apple/Google API

Public release of iOS 13.5 within this few days.

This is normal.

iOS developers are not allowed to release App with pre-release APIs into the App Store.
They can only launch their app with the latest API on the day of the launch or after.

Probably a small subset of the iOS community due to the technical limitations. I think we should hopefully see a higher number when iOS 13.5 is released, since they'll no longer be required to leave the app in the foreground.

But that would be dependent on whether or not govtech is open to using Apple and Google's APIs.

If the gov do go ahead to leverage on it. It would mean that users with an iPhone 6S and above will be able to contribute to this initiative. However thatís provided that they update their iOS and agree to take part in this.

Hope the TraceTogether app will support the Exposure Notification API in the next few days or weeks as an update since 13.5 is publicly available now.
