But visiting Kyoto and Hakone, so thought the JR pass will be more worth it?
If you not convinced then go Japan guide or hyperdia and check out the costs of all the major rail journeys you intend to take, then compare with JR pass cost lo.

I help you get started. Tokyo to Odawara •3500 (Odawara to Hakone not covered in JR pass so need to pay extra). Odawara to Kyoto •12000.

Hakone has a two day pass which I'm not wrong tie in with the Fuji five lake areas.....it makes more economical sense and provide more convenience for the user...I think the pass cost 5K....the whole process of paying for the cable car....pirate ship in the Hakone area is already close to 5K without the pass...from my observation...most tourist in Hakone actually uses the pass.....the pass can be at the tourist office in Odawara

Think the cable car might not available due to volcanic activites..

Only certain parts are closed...namely the Owakudani part...the rest of the ropeway are still working ....the closed section has been replaced by buses....so it might not be a good idea to go at the moment...transport is inconvenient
