will be quite rush to do both in a day, coz of the time needed to travel from tokyo.
since u are planning for pink moss festival as well, how abt catering 3 days for hakone, gotemba, kawaguchi (pink moss), and utilising the fuji-hakone pass

if really want to be day trips, there is direct highway buses that goes from shinjuku to the pink moss festival
Ah understood. If we do stay say, one night out, how would you suggest to visit the 3 please?

And if not (because accommodation in Tokyo is settled), day trips for each?

hi guys, 1st timer to tokyo... got some queries about the transportation...

1. Hakone
buy hakone free pass from Odakyu Sightseeing centre at Shinjuku station
top up ¥1090 to your Hakone Free Pass for the Romance car
top up at the same place i buy the hakone free pass right?

2. Kawaguchiko
take highway bus from Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal
get off at Chuo EXPWY Shimo Yoshida bus stop to get to Arakurayama Sengen Park
is this Chuo EXPWY Shimo Yoshida bus stop obvious/common or i have to keep a lookout myself?

i may decide to go straight to the moss festival from Shinjuku via this bus http://bus-en.fujikyu.co.jp/highway/detail/id/1
take the Shibazakura Liner to go back Kawaguchiko station http://www.shibazakura.jp/eng/access/

from Kawaguchiko station, i will explore the area

3. hiking Mt Mitsutoge
i'm still quite blur on how to get to the start of this trail, i found the following 3 sites
https://japancheapo.com/entertainmen...ng-mount-fuji/
https://en.japantravel.com/yamanashi...tsu-touge/2057
https://gvlt.wordpress.com/2014/05/1...ake-kawaguchi/

i was thinking of following B. Take the bus from Kawaguchiko Station to Mitsutogetosanguchi from https://japancheapo.com/entertainmen...ng-mount-fuji/ and also wanna try the Tenkachaya (天下茶屋) but the following bold statement make me blur,
Alternatively, you can leave Shinjuku at around 8am or earlier, stay on the train until you reach the Kawaguchiko terminus, then take the Fuji Kyuko “hiking” bus (which only runs between 9 and 10am) to the other side of the mountain and get off at the Mitsutogetozanguchi stop. From there, follow the signs to Mitsutoge (三つ峠), or stay on the bus to the final stop Tenkachaya (天下茶屋) and get some of their very popular Hoto (ほうとう) noodles before hiking up.

wad is the train that i can take from Shinkuku before 8am that will get me to Kawaguchiko terminal and be able to take the Fuji Kyuko “hiking” bus (which only runs between 9 and 10am)?

thanks!
Following this with curiousity!

Looks like our intents are pretty similar

For the bold part, i.e. the train from shinjuku to kawaguchiko, please refer to Fujikyu railway website. Got state such trains from JR directly.

If you are holding JR pass, need to pay additional for the part on fujikyu railway section, after all they are separate operators.

Should be no problem if using Tokyo Wide Pass.

for mitsutoge, go to the official mitsutoge webpage and decide on which route you prefer
http://www.mitsutoge-info.jp/root/rootmap.php

the most popular route is the Course A on the map, probably because it goes through several interesting spots on the way up.

the most interesting guide to the mitsutoge climb is to watch anime! the recent yama no susume (encouragement of climb) season 2 from episode 2 to 4 charts the route and fun the 4 girls had climbing that mountain. the anime is super detailed and accurate with the whole route so not only can you follow it exactly, you get a introduction to all the highlights of the route. just go to your favorite anime watching website and look for yama no susume season 2!

From Shinjuku, take the 7am Super Azusa Limited Express to Otsuki and change to the 8:18 Fujikyu line bound for kawaguchiko. Get off at Mitsutoge.

too bad for me i find other activities to enjoy

thanks for "yama no susume" recommendation ... enjoyed the anime, not only they detailed the route, even gives tips on preparation for mountain trekking.

wondering why the anime title is written in katakana and not hiragana/kanji

the wisteria season was more than a week early this year... i think it peaked on last weekend...

yes it means only weekends and holidays. so it means there is an additional service on weekend. the schedule also says from 13 to 16 aug, the weekend service will run as well.
