SUICA and PASMO is essentially the same kind of smart card. Like our ezlink vs Nets Flashpay.

Just If you don't want kanto Area pass, just get NEX+SUICA. and take bus from either Tokyo station or Shinjuku station to Kawaguchiko
Fuji Five Lakes Travel: Access, Transportation and Orientation
Or i can get to Otsuki station and buy external ticket and travel by train to kawaguchi. Correct me if im wrong hahh.

NEX wont reach Otsuki but max to Takao east of Otsuki, But take note that only some very late trains going Takao(19:46 & 20:44). Unless you arrival at narita coincides, you will waste lots of time for this particular train to Takao.
JR-EAST: Shinkansen-Reservation

Hyperdia says from Takao to Otsuki then to Kawaguchi cost 1680yen and 95mins. Very steep if you compare it to bus from Shinjuku/Tokyo for 1700 yen.

Oh I read from hypermedia and they said can travel from narita-shinjuku-otsuki-kawaguchiko. From shinjuku to otsuki if cannot use nex but suica can right? Or is it must buy external ticket?

Normal sport shoes will get wet though if you step on snow and may not have traction. Suggest you wear boots with traction, or something that is for Winter.

i disagree on the vibram sole.
vibram soles are good for trekking on rough terrains, but on smooth and wet surface, such as pavements, it is very slippery.
just do a search on google regarding vibram:
<!! esc='dquote'>Yahoo Answers</!!> - Is vibram really good?
Vibram soles - Trailspace

use snow/ice spikes that are strapped onto your shoes.

some have metal rivets. It will scratch the floor, so kindly take them off when not needed. There is a kind that is only rubber soled. Worked pretty well too.

you can throw them away at the end of the trip.

Trip to Osaka and Tokyo 27 Dec to 4 Jan 2014

Hi
Just checking if you can advise with regards to transportation.

Family of 4 of mine is going to Osaka on 27 Dec (arriving in morning) and will spend 4 days in Osaka and nearby areas (Kyoto, Nara) before going to tokyo for another 4 or 5 days.

Do you think it is worth getting the JR Pass for 7 days which entitled us to travel from kansai airport to osaka, within Osaka, and to kyoto and Nara and then sinkasen to tokyo?

Or is it more worth to take the Kansai Thru Pass for the Osaka leg and and Osaka unlimited pass for the rides within Osaka itself with free entrance to 28 attractions? I know we have to get the sinkasen train ticket for this option.

Strange thing is when we enquired at JTB office in IONs, they all said not worth to get the JR Pass.

Thanks for your time.
