Any good resorts to recommend for beginners? Tried ski last time during el nino period when the snow was melting. Not a good experience.

I took 5days ski lessons (2-4ppl groups) in myoko kogen in the 2018-2019 season, finally managed to get my technique up to tackle groomed blacks. 2019-2020 missed cos of baby, 2020-2021 missed cos of covid, by the time 2021-2022 season comes along I think 3 years no ski sure go back to greens liao 😂

Nagano too expensive for me as a beginner. IIRC standard accommodation can go up to $400-500 a night during peak season. No wonder local development coys building resorts there for people to buy/invest.

Best is to wait until a proper vaccine is found. Ski resorts is a covid wonderland.

Nobody force you to stay in atas onsen or ski in ski out hotel ba, main island resorts all have pretty reasonable accommodation.

For beginners i would strongly recommend myoko kogen (stay akakura onsen), cos there is a gaijin-owned ski school there for reasonable group English lessons for most skill levels.

I stayed in a family-run small ryokan/hotel called kotobukiro, $300/nett with breakfast n dinner served in room for 2pax. 5mins walk from slopes.

4 day ski pass 21000
4 day equipment rental 15000
4 day group ski classes 49000

If really want cheaper though can consider Yamagata / Zao Onsen. It was a few years ago so I dunno if prices still valid but ryokan i paid $190 nett for 2 ppl with breakfast and dinner.
