Don't intend to book the huts since only few hours rest for 6000 yen. Also not rushing to catch sunrise.

Should be okay to monkey see monkey do all the way up and down since surely will have human horde there.

Any advantage of taking the package tour up?

It is v cold and windy on the way up even during summer.

If you just planning to go up to summit and not catching sunrise then I think you can complete the whole trek before sunset if you start like 7-8am.

I took pkg tour which include bus to and fro 5th station, one night mountain hut with breakfast and dinner, and onsen. I took it for convenience and cheaper than arranging myself.

Being ‘very fit’ doesn’t mean you won’t risk high attitude sickness.
You may chiong up & give up soon.

We are almost sea level creatures here.

Be prepared for wet conditions too. It was pouring when I was halfway up to the hut.

I think for English site only have guide package which is more expensive. I book the Japanese site which offer no guide option.

No need for package becos there’s going to be tones of people around unless you are taking the gotemba route (which is the longest). Just hope it doesn’t rain. It’s not simple - you need to train esp if you intend to start at night and hit summit overnight.

Any place to recommend for overnight near Kawaguchiko bus stop?

Thinking early morning take bus from kawaguchiko to 5th station for early climb and then take 5th station last bus to Shinjuku 5pm.

Tiagong not enough time unless you are very good & fast for the last bus.
May end up ‘free stay’ lying overnight in Station 5 car park.

My advise... Plan your trip min 2 days and 1 night at your leisure pace.

Mount Fuji is not a easy climb and the weather change condition in mountain very rapid & unpredicted.

I went up to summit last July with my Japanese friends hiking group. ;)
