Hi,
Please do recommend hotels that you have had good experiences in.
Low budget maximum $120/night. Prefer to be near JR Kyoto or a short ride away.
Thank you!

What period? During Spring and Autumn peak timing very hard to find even 300/night.

looking for simple accomodation (small business hotel/chains/etc).
Going in off-peak season in July and haven't booked yet :o Staying for 4 (separate) nights in total.

Trying to find out which areas are good for sightseeing yet near to transport node (easy subway access to JR Kyoto, due to carrying luggage).

Thank you!

Most convenient can't beat Granvia Hotel but it can be pricey depending on the season.

In autumn 2016, I stayed at Check In Shijokarasuma hotel. The room is really tiny, but it has a small washing machine which was really helpful. I did my laundry and hung it up to dry in the bathroom with heater on. There is also an onsen on the top floor, just basic, simple no view hot bath, but felt really good on the cold nights. Was about $170 a night. Nearest station is Shijo, one station away from Kyoto Station.

If you like ryokan which are usually expensive, you can try this new ryokans by Resi stay which have very reasonable prices.

They are a company which builds ryokans in various parts of Kyoto so that you can live and feel like a local.

The location of some may not be too convenient though.

You can have a look at this website which has a few of the apartments available.

Normally I will use tripadvisors to see which hotels are nice.

Then afterwards, go to those hotel websites to book. Sometimes the Japanese website will offer slightly better rates

Citadines Gojo is not bad
