I knew that Jap was racist when used in USA more than 10 years ago from playing FFXI online on Japanese servers lol. But in a local context if it’s not at all used in a derisory manner then no big deal IMO.

Putting things in perspective:

Jap is offensive to Japanese
Hongkee is offensive to HK
Sinkee is self-inflicted and publicly-accepted lol
