Starhub new unlimited weekend data mobile plans

StarHub has annouinced a suite of new post-paid mobile plans that will give customers unlimited 4G data from 12AM on Saturday till 11:50PM on Sunday every weekend. During the week, customers will have between 3GB and 15GB of bundled data, which can be upsized and shared with loved ones using the popular DataJump and DataShare options.

The plans are available in both SIM-only options and with a subsidized mobile device:

Seems like the old plans are no longer available for recontracting or new mobile line subscribers. Starhub is indirectly forcing you to adopt the newer and more expensive plans especially if you're in a home bundle.

Old plans (no longer available):

I am currently subscribed to 4G 4 plan and am eligible for re-contract. Can I recontract back to my existing plan?
No, you will need to sign up for the new Lite Plan or XS/S/M/L/XL Plans.
Your existing 4G 4 mobile plan is no longer available for recontract.

To ensure that the activities of some users do not impair the ability of our customers to have access to reliable services, Unlimited Saturday and Sunday Local Data is conditional on fair usage by you for personal use and is capped at 10GB per day. If you exceed 10GB at any time on a Saturday or Sunday, we will impose a speed limit of 1 Mbps. The speed limit will be lifted on the following day.

Tbh using 10GB per day is a lot of data already which is good enough. Even if u tethering, download huge prawn also more than enough.

As for the plans wise is all the same. Even for m1 as well. They will force u take up on the new mysim3 plan as well

You don't get the point. What he's saying is that, when there's new plans launched for certain tier, the previous range of plans will automatically be removed, and therefore not available for recontract anymore.

If SingTel Combo and M1 Data Bundled plans were to be changed to follow StarHub pricing, the current range will not be available for recontract anymore.

Can you be sure that it's really 10gb before it starts to slow down? I advise to take it in with a pinch of salt.
All unlimited plans are experiencing 1 to 2 gb of normal usage before extreme lag steps in. Fair usage and fine prints will be quoted to complainants. So unless it's stated in bold without any other fine prints like subject to telco discretion, I would say read and don't believe too much into it. Cheers

Assuming what he said is true, we still don't know if Singtel or M1 will update their plans in the near future. So as of now Singtel and M1 customers still have a choice of recontracting at the lower priced plans.

Same experience in oversea, use around 1gb despite on unlimited daily plan, throttle till 2g standard.
Despite in top region asia country as their data is much faster than Singapore.

Bind u to contract, no limit on usage, but speed is the key.

TS, even as the old plans are not available, you can simply sign up for the SIM only plans and buy the phones from retailers outside, which is likely to be cheaper overall. The time has moved and we are gearing towards more data and less call and SMS.

What is important here is, by signing up the SIM only $24 plan with $6 Data Plus, for $30 you get 6GB and 200mins talk time. If you use an old plan of $60 (or about there) the $30 you save per month will be $720 for 2 years. Buying a S8 or S8 plus is $780/$890 respectively at some retailers. Old contract plans giving you 2/3/4/5/6GB of data is no fight unless you are getting 4-5 lines with multi lines saver for the whole family.

Not everyone prefers SIM only plans. There's also benefit from getting the handset from telco if you know what I mean (no I'm not referring to the subsidised amount for handset). Personally, I'm not one who uses lots of data so a cheaper plan would mean less cost incurred over 2 years. Further, I find that not having any bundled sms is atrocious. At least provide 50 bundled sms. There are times when you install apps that requires mobile registration which would send out sms from your phone without you even knowing. Whatsapp, iMessage just to name a few.

And more reasons..

I do not know what you mean by benefits in getting handset from telco. Please explain.

Consider getting the $20 basic plans from Singtel and M1 that comes with some calls and SMS.
