ISP insurance that covers overseas non-emergency treatment?

My current Incomeshield plan only covers emergency hospitalisation while overseas.

For those who are living overseas, are there any plans/riders to cover overseas hospitalisation, for eg in M'sia.

Thanks

Base Integrated Shield plan premiums are MediSave payable, and those base plans are designed for Singapore. Any coverage outside Singapore is incidental, only for emergencies, and often inadequate. The basic reason is that the government understandably doesn't want MediSave dollars to be spendable outside Singapore, with possible rare exceptions.

Great Eastern sells an optional rider that provides some limited coverage for non-emergency medical care outside Singapore. It will not provide adequate coverage for care in higher cost countries such as the United States.

The general recommendation is to purchase true international medical insurance if you need coverage outside Singapore for more than emergencies. Pacific Prime is a significant medical insurance broker in Singapore that specializes in this type of insurance, and they have an online tool that offers some comparison shopping.

If you want adequate or better emergency medical coverage outside Singapore then you really need something that offers medical evacuation and medical repatriation, in addition to emergency care. The best value for money Iíve found so far for those who venture outside Singapore more than once or twice is Bupa Globalís ďBasicĒ plan, which offers rather good worldwide emergency coverage for trips up to 45 days in length. Itís available for direct online purchase from Bupa Globalís Web site, and its costs roughly 100 British pounds per year, give or take. Of course Iím open to alternatives, but I havenít found anything better yet.
