Only D-sib banks as categorize by mas systematic important Dbs, uob, ocbc, hsbc, citibank, Stanchart are safe.

ALL other foreign banks India bank, bangkok bank, china bank, etc are allowed to fail, there is no bailout and protection of account holders. Why? Tax payers money is not allowed to bail out foreign banks.

Malaysian banks is quite risky with Malaysian Ringgit depreciation against world currency, stock index at hammered due to election.

To correct, $50k is an insurance SCHEME by a company where each participating bank pays a premium, in event of insurance claim is paid from premium accumulated. SDIC is not govt guarantee.

The only govt guarantee is national banks posb or dbs.

More important is their exposure to the property bubble lah. Or they play the markets like Nick Leeson of Barings Bank.

You got 6 out of the 7 domestic systemically important banks. But why did you leave out... Maybank?

Anyone do a rmb fixed deposit in BOC or ICBC? I'll need to use rmb in the near future. Do you change sgd to rmb for the fixed deposit or you do the change via money exchanger?

Is the rmb fixed deposit still stands over 4%??

Is it safe to do rmb fixed deposit in Singapore?

Hi,

When I last checked with the bank, rmb fixed deposit rate was 4.1%. Not sure whether it is still valid. Iirc, foreign currency FD deposits is not protected by the government.

Always deposit Rmb by purchasing from me money changer. The rates are much better.

Hope this helps.

Same terms and conditions as the previous one, 50k minimum, call the bank, they don't open on weekends!
