NS NEWBIE HERE PLS HELP

Hi all, I’m a higher nitec graduate and I’m going to be enlisting to SAF soon. I’m really not familiar with almost anything and everything that involves the army, and that’s why I’m feeling v lost.

But first of all, I have no interest in almost anything in life, so I’m probably done studying and I have no dreams as to what I wanna do if I don’t sign on.

However, that’s where I’m lost as I don’t know what to sign on as. I’m definitely do not possess leadership skills so those units that require me to order people around is a no-no for me. I’m guessing it’s something like sergeant(?), I won’t sign on to that.

I plan to just sign on once for the money despite everyone saying how miserable i’ll be, but please leave the misery for me to handle.

I really have so many questions, and I hope some kind soul will answer them for me, I will deeply appreciate it with so much thanks.

1. Should I sign on as ADF specialist? I heard the pay is good but I want to know about the life there.

2. I know most will say signing on as officer has more benefits than ADF, but what is it like being an officer? And how much is the sign on bonus?

3. If those two options aren’t good or something, what should I sign on as? Prefer if someone can recommend something with reasonable pay & life.

4. Do I have to go for reservist after I complete my contract of signing on?

5. My friend told me to sign on to SPF as he said there are more benefits for someone simple like me. He asked me to go for the interview before I enlist, and I’m thinking of whether to do so. I also heard from him that it’s a little less tough.

6. Should I sign on to Air Force? What are the options for a reasonable pay & life?

To the kind souls that are reading and will provide some help, please note that I’m doing it more for the money but at the same time I try to avoid the toughest job. My mindset is suffer now enjoy later. 25 years old i’m out, apply bto and buy car. if cannot, pls advise!

1. You got no interest in anything then why you bother asking?

2. There are ADF officer, but signing on doesn't mean you will be officer also.

3. What is reasonable to you may not be reasonable to others.

4. As long as you are under the statutory age, of course still need.

5. More meaningful.

6. We are not you, cannot decide what you should or should not do.

you are doing it for the money, yet you don't want to work hard. wait long long la.

I hope they don't accept you even if you want to apply. waste tax payers money.

1. I no interest in anything but I still have to do something right??

2. You’re not answering the question

3. Could have recommended something reasonable in general or maybe what you think is reasonable so I can consider and see

4, I heard from my friends that ADF no need go reservist so just wanted to clarify

6. I’m just asking in case someone knows whether it’s a good choice or something.

tbh i’m still young, this is my mindset but you don’t have to be so gl and mean about it if this is the way i think about things. i hope the red devil down there accepts you with open arms

1) something doesnít mean need to sign on, and with your kind of attitude signing on, the money also will be difficult to earn.

2) you arenít asking the right question, so no question to be answered.

3) every job pays for what itís worth, so that will be a reasonable pay for the job. What matters is what life you want.

4) why donít you ask your friends to clarify how they come to such conclusion or their source, rather than asking people to verify what your Friend is saying on the first instance.

6) there are those who forever in the service who may think is a good choice. There are also those that quite as they donít think it is a good choice. So if you have the same number of people telling you 2 opposite things, who you listen to?

Because you are young and have such mindset hence need to tell you to wake up your idea.

I think many young people are like you - it's not that they are not interested in anything or have dreams; it's just that they have not found anything that they like, and do not what to dream since they have not found their goals yet.

You are still very young. I believe as you experience life a little more, you will find your dreams, you purpose in life. Just give yourself a little time. That moment will come.

Pardon me, I do not have enough knowledge or experience to advise you on your questions.

1. Should I sign on as ADF specialist? I heard the pay is good but I want to know about the life there.
ANS:
I am not too sure if Higher Nitec is possible to sign as an ADF specialist(combat) . From what I understand the only vocation that is open to Higher Nitec are ADF Trooper or ADF Logistics Specialists as per the Army Website. You need to check with Army Recruitment on this.

Due to my current work, I do have the opportunity to talk to some ADF personnel. Pay wise definitely good but the training can be tough. If you are not operational , you can book out every day but when there is operations or training then you will have to stay in. ADF are highly trained regulars and some of the ADF troopers have years of experiences and even been posted to overseas missions. So they are highly experienced and in my opinion, very nice to work with. But they definitely do not tolerate ******** and can sense it. Try anything funny with them at your own risk. Training is also extremely tough.

2. I know most will say signing on as officer has more benefits than ADF, but what is it like being an officer? And how much is the sign on bonus?
Minimum standard of officers need to be polytechnic diploma. There is also no "ADF Officer" vocation to speak of. All ADF officers are just normal regular Infantry/Guards/Commandos officers

3. If those two options arenít good or something, what should I sign on as? Prefer if someone can recommend something with reasonable pay & life.
You need to define whats reasonable pay and life. Whats your expectation? High pay but you dun mind it being risky, stressful and tough? Easy job, moderate pay but no career progression? High pay but you basically live for the organisation? (worklife balance).
Its hard for us to recommend to you without knowing whats your expectation or much less knowing you as a person.

4. Do I have to go for reservist after I complete my contract of signing on?
Yes.. in fact you will have to take up higher appointments during your reservist due to your higher rank. Dont expect the remnants of your reservist to be equivalent to your years of service as well (eg you serve 5 years as a regular, you wont be expected to only serve 5 more years of Reservists) . Your friend statement of ADF doesnt have to serve reservist is completely wrong. In fact they will be hot in demand after they ORD to all the reservist battalions

5. My friend told me to sign on to SPF as he said there are more benefits for someone simple like me. He asked me to go for the interview before I enlist, and Iím thinking of whether to do so. I also heard from him that itís a little less tough.
If you naturally excel for psychical fitness and tactical awareness, ARMY will be better.
If you are more street smart, prefer to speak and diffuse situations, police might be a better choice.

6. Should I sign on to Air Force? What are the options for a reasonable pay & life?
The only vocations for higher nitec is aircrew specialist. Once again, what are you expecting ?

Your statement as to, "Iím definitely do not possess leadership skills so those units that require me to order people around is a no-no for me. Iím guessing itís something like sergeant(?), I wonít sign on to that. " is definitely a position for yourself to worry about.

A position of a specialist/sergeant both in the SAF or other Hometeam Agencies are a position of leadership. You are expected to lead your team in the different situations. Even a logistics sergeant have to order his storemen to do their duties. If you are not open to leading people, you might want to seriously consider if signing on is the right path for you, there are other jobs in the civilian world that is more suitable with your mindset.

As long as you sign on, you will have to lead people. Since you’re a commander. So you definitely would need the leadership skills. If you think you don’t have that skills, then I suggest you don’t sign on.

I knew a regular only had N/O level and he’s a sergeant/spec. He’s my commander thus he’s to lead.

And I don’t know what other job to suggest for you since I’m not sure what what’s your interest.

as someone who has gone through some things in life, i hope i can help you

1. sorry i do not know much about this vocation ... let the more experienced ones advise you on that.

2. it is almost impossible to sign on as an officer, because of your educational level.

3. at your educational level, there are certain options available to you. looks like you dont have much information to decide with. why don't you contact cmpb and enquire about the options available first?

5/6. whether to choose SPF or not actually depends on your personal preference. i have heard friends who need to do shift work frequently, so it depends. of course what you train for is also different, comparing with saf.

from what i heard air force is less physical, but again the vocations are different.

it is very difficult for you to choose because you have no direction in life and you know nothing about SAF/SPF etc.

as a first step, you really should stop being lazy, and start thinking and planning about your future.

if you do choose a uniformed life, then go find out more, maybe talk to the cmpb staff first.

it is time to stop making decisions based on friends or hearsay or rumours.

if you dont change your attitude, you will most likely be miserable even after buying a car and bto.

because after that , you will become directionless again.
