I got my compensation!

Hi guys, today I went for my PD board and the sum has been decided. My ACL injury was diagnosed to be 7% PD with a full sum 100% at $262,000. So when you work out a 7% PD, it will be calculated to be $18,300 (rounded off to nearest $100 as per directives). And because the injury was sustained during training, under directives, the sum will be double and hence i wil receive $36,600 in by bank account 3-4 months from now.

My case is weird, suffered a fracture while doing my guard duty, went for MMI appointment last month, MO told me they will schedule me for an appointment in 2 weeks time at one of the hospital to produce the disability report. One month passed and i contacted NS contact, they just got back to me and told me MMI has already received my disability assessment from the hospital based on past medical records.

Kinda weird but oh wells. Hope you are recovering well.

Why weird?

Reason because the MO specifically told me that i would have to go to CGH for an assessment to finalise the disability report and they would contact me to confirm the appointment, but one month passed and i sent an email to ns contact centre with regards to the case, they checked with the relevant department that the hospital already did the disability assessment without me having to go there, which contradicted to what the MO told me. Hence, that statement.

The analogy here is you're sick, you booked an appointment to see the doctor, but instead of the doctor diagnosing you then prescribing the medicine, he already prescribed it and told you to collect it without seeing him for consultation. ( That's the reason why i contacted NS contact centre for clarification. One end, MO from MMI told me i had to go to the hospital to assess the disability and churn out the report, next minute, didn't have to go, it's already done and sent to SAF)

Not entirely surprising. Let me share my downgrade story.

I was diagnosed with AS in 1997. My consultant at Tan Tock Seng wrote a letter to the 2PDF MO to recommend that he review my PES. So I took the letter to the 2PDF medical centre (formerly at Beach Road) to see the MO. The MO temporary excused me from IPPT, ICT, BCTC, etc and told me to wait for medical board review.

I waited for a couple of months. An SAF100 came asking me to go for IPPT. I called up the chief clerk (no NS Portal those days) to inquire about my IPPT excuse. He told me that my medical review with the medical board was already over and he had forgotten to inform me to attend the review.

Fortunately I was downgraded to PES EL9 so everything was forgiven. Guess things has not changed over the last two decades!

Question (Am i able to cliam for service injury)

I am currently service NS as a Security trooper

Before enlisting I am diagnosed with slip disc on before enlisting to army . I was told that I have to be posted around due to the lack of man power . I had told my PC about it but they say they could not do anything about it and because the postings to different camps . my slip disc condition had gotten worst and there is a new injury / finding in the recent MRI scan .
Am I able to claim for Service Injury ? If yes Please do let me know the steps on how to do so .

July 2020 to Sep 2020 posted to different camps (Seletar / Nee Soon / SFT)

17 Sep went A&E to get a referral letter for MRI Scan

4 Dec gotten result with new findings / Injury

Did you declare your original condition during your pre-enlistment checkup?

The challenging part is establishing your worsening condition is due to you being posted around.

Go see your MO

I got 12% PD for ACL tear/reconstruction. Sadly, this was way back when the max amount was $120k+ so I got something like 15k iirc. Yes, there are documents online that will specify the rough range and ACL does cap out at 12% or something like that. I also had the uncanny luck to have had a MO friend who happened to be in MMI for medical boarding that very day so he did teach me a thing or two.

Honestly, it's quite a pittance compared to the inconveniences you'll face throughout the rest of your life. Does help with your living expenses through uni tho, I guess.

I just did my medical assessment last week at the clinic. The specialist (outsource) not friendly at all and left the room within 5mins. No questions asked, No physical examination done but relatively showing my presence there merely. Hopefully is a good judgment.
