Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I am interested in MyRepublic gaming plan. I enjoy playing on the OCE server for League of Legends but I keep getting 150ms from Singtel, will swapping to MyRepublic be any different?

Do you have the OCE server IP address for us to test?

Hi guys,

I am currently on myrepublic fibre broadband plan. Starhub is currently ceasing the end of cable tv services and the switch to fibre tv requires starhub to provide my broadband services. So am I able to switch to fibre tv while sticking to myrepublic broadplan services?

thanks

I feel that MR Gamer plan is not worth it unless you require the custom routing.

I am able to play online games on 1Gbps plan.

What is custom routing?

What is custom routing?
Custom Routing is a feature that’s unique to MyRepublic’s GAMER plan. As GAMER customers are assigned a specific dedicated IP address range, we are able to specially shape the routes GAMER customers use to connect to overseas servers — specifically game servers — customising their experience and optimising for online gaming performance.

Copy paste form Reddit.

'gamer networks' are dead. Let me explain

Most games these days rent server bandwidth from major cloud provides like Amazon (S3) and Microsoft (Azure). They are commonly referred to as 'datacenters' although the old term 'dedicated servers' still is used. For example, Fortnite runs on Amazon S3 and Rainbow Six Siege uses Microsoft Azure. Both of these games get a good connection in Singapore because both Amazon and Microsoft have servers here that serve the region. It makes no sense for game companies to build their own server infrastructure anymore because companies like Amazon and Microsoft have built datacenters scattered all over the world, which basically gets rid of the distance ping problem.

The thing is, these major datacenters don't just host games, they also host for other large content services. For example, Netflix uses Amazon S3 and iCloud (yes really) uses Microsoft Azure.

So, gamer or not, ISPs are putting in the work regardless to route the most efficient path to these major datacenters. ISPs with a good connection to Microsoft Azure give users a great experience with iCloud, Apple Music, iOS updates, Windows Update, and Ubisoft's games. It really is killing 6 birds with 1 stone. It's a no-brainer.

So as long as you're playing a modern game that uses datacenters, you're guaranteed to have a great experience. Older games like CS use a patchwork of old-style 'dedicated servers' and 'matchmaking servers', but AFAIK, as long as the servers are within asia, the ping should be fine. If you play a game that forces you on a EU or US server, it's ****ed.

Honestly, the biggest improvement you can make for your connection is to get a router that can actually handle the traffic. Chances are you're living in a house where the connection is shared with 4 or 5 other people in your family. The cheap no-name router from the ISP simply won't cut it.
