Macbook Pro Late 2011 15" Logic Board Replacement Options

Hello all,

I have a Macbook Pro Late 2011 15".

It finally failed on me a few days ago, symptoms included:
  • Horizontal red lines appearing on screen at boot;
  • Vertical grey/white/black bars appearing on screen at boot;
  • System failing to boot (progress bar stuck at half or 1/4) before screen whites out/system reboots;
  • Red and blue interlacing bars on screen at boot;
All pointing to a logic board failure.

The logic board for this unit was never replaced since it was procured in 2011, and obviously, I only learned about Apple's replacement program with regard to the logic board for this model (which ended 3 years ago)

So now, I am only considering replacing the logic board.

Has anyone tried to put a Mid-2012 Logic Board into the Mid-2011?

Looking forward to some advice here. Thanks!

P.S. I will write off this unit entirely if replacing the logic board is not a viable solution. And no, I am not replacing it with a logic board of the same year; there is an issue with the AMD graphics chip (which the unit happened to fail from).

there's this Macbook avid guy on YouTube who often buy used macbook.

He did something similar like yours, put the 2012's logic board into the 2011's chassis. Apparently it works, after all all the chassis are the same from from 2010 to 2012. But, I do hope that you are competent and skilled to do the transplant.

I did some further research, the transplant would be a waste of effort.

The design flaw affected 2011-2013 logic boards.

Also, Apple labelled the unit as "Obsolete", I am just gonna strip it for parts and recycle the rest.
