My friend's friend got A* and he is the top student for that module. I think A* is for top student and subsequently followed by A+ and so on..

Depending on your situation, getting an A can be expected or unexpected--and it's the unexpected that will surprise you and that's when you'll feel the most shiok!
not really leh.. got one time I got a very unexpected A for a module (becoz I nvr studied for it as I was bz preparing for another module that I really want to do well but sucks at it). I spent the whole study week studying for just one module and using only 2 days (at most) to study for that A module.

In the end, I did poorly in the module I studied so hard for and an A for a module I never put in any efforts...

efforts not equal to results in NUS. This is what I learnt in NUS.

So you weren't happy that you got an A for your module that you didn't study hard for and it was unexpected?
