I have taken CS3230. The module emphaises on the techinques of problem-solving. You will learn how to design an effective algorithm and to analysis the effectiveness of the algorithm. This may sound like you are revising the stuff you had learned in CS1102, but it is actually more in depth annd more abstract. You will be also need to do more proving in topics such as the reduction of a unfamilar problem to a well known NP- complete problem(aks NP hard problems). Hence a good foundation of CS1231 is essential is required to score well. However, this module is rewarding as you can write better algorithms which is a scoring requirement in CS3215 and level 4000 modules.

For Cs2106, you must be familiar with C language and the Unix system as the syllabus, labs and the project is based on them. Although the requirement is CS2100, the knowledge of CS2100 is only useful in the topic of File and memory management. For the other topics, It is essential to read the textbook.

Hope it helps.

to learn, enjoy the process of learning, discovery of new knowledge
and not just merely scoring for exams (ie, which mods easy to get As, which issn't)

u shld take mods which interests you or you feel can add value to you as a learner in the education system

Like that might as well:

1. Don't enrol in school. Just audit what you are interested in. Might it be reading books, webpage and crashing lectures, etc

2. Don't even attend formal lesson and read up. Just do what you like in life and discovered things in life. Like how to write, how to read, how to compose a piece of music, how to play a game, how to pull a level with the least effort, etc

Why pay to stress yourself over exams, grade and a piece of paper?

I took cs3248 last sem and it is quite a time consuming module. The lecturer basically throws you the group project and you either self learn/already know the software skills. I would advise to have some form of knowledge in these are before taking the module.

Flash Actionscript
Maya
CGI scripting using perl

Cheers!

This is a must take module if you are going for 3 yr.

Workload not particularly tough. 1 case presentation, video making, midterm and final exams.

both are group work for cs2250, and usually they randomize the group members...

Only the video proj gp is randomized. You can form your own case presentation gp.

But this is only if they dun change the system.

Note that there'll be lab sessions for 1102 and 2100.
