If you are serious at aquascape, you need to put your light on a timer switch. This way you can control the amount of light and light hour the plant receive daily. This can help alot at fighting algae.

24 h light is not natural. In nature, plant has about 8 to 12 h of light. 4 to 6 h of high intensity light.

I put my tank next to window. My window is frosted type and facing walkway, thus even though the outside sun very hot, won't make my room or the window too hot.

I understand there is risk, of over population of algae due to this, so I'm hoping to try put more plants to fight algae.

Does this means I don't need artificial light? I just use outside natural light?

You still need artificial light.

The low amount of light form the window is enough for algae but not for the plant you intend to grow.

Plant fight algae by acting as a competition for nutrients with the algae. But plant need more light to photosynethsis before they can use up those nutrients.

Normally fresh water fish dont need to add salt to their tank.

I know some hobbyist always have salt in their tank to prevent fungus or bacteria.

But in nature, the fish like Tetra live in river that has almost zero salt content in the water. Personally i only add salt to water of hospital tank for really sick fish.

Spots or holes in leaves may indicate nutrient deficiency. This case, it means Manganese deficiency.

You can add some fertilizer that contain trace element to see if that helps.
