actually i will recommend none for TS.
Cos i detect minimal effort to understand , so the reason/effort for having fishes won't be enough. If you do want to start , ask question , read up. These days there are tons of help and things for beginner so failure is pretty rare even if you did take that small small steps
Right you are!...

.. fishkeeping should be a life-long passion...

.. the first step to proceed towards that is to rear not fish, but bacteria...
.. few beginners realise this...
.. realising this is the biggest secret to successful fish-keeping...

.. otherwise, it will only be a waste of valuable fish, not to mention money and effort...

buy feeder guppies, bettas, platies to rear. save them from becoming food for big fishes.
tks me later
Yes I agree with that...

.. but usually, beginners start by buying gorgeous-looking and pricy fish... Lol...

.. not that it's bad though... but a waste of fish, and money...

i forget to add in one more thing. newbies should start to learn how to rear water first, how to produce top quality water with BBs for pet fishes.

then start to rear feeder fishes

then finally their expensive favourite fishes

many newbies give up the hobby because they begining keep buying expensive fishes and dying. then give up hobby and declare this hobby very difficult, waste time and money, nt worth it.

Exactly...
.. without knowing the basics, no matter how many times one comes back after giving up, the same problems will be faced again and again...

.. it is of utmost importance to first learn how to cultivate bacteria before trying to keep any fish...

..bacteria is the fish-keepers best friend... and the secret of success with fishes...

True but the hobby has been in decline, at least in SG, whether due to economic reasons or people moving to other hobbies. Lots of smaller LFS have closed down. Arofanatics is a shadow of what it used to be.

I stopped keeping fish due to work for over a decade, recently just got back into shrimp. I still miss the days of monster fish - which is even rarer today? I'm afraid I can't truly keep them without moving to the suburbs in another country.

actually our local pet scene is very boring one.
many animals cannot bring in due to AVA strict rules.

if you look at Japan, TW, HK pet shops, their are so much more interesting.

Next is rental and upkeep so things won’t be cheap . With Taobao in tow only good profit is life stock but with ava and space constrain not easy .

live stock do not necessarily churn good profit. You need to account for death of fishes as well.
