Ask u all ah. For planted tanks. When testing for nitrate, should it be of some value rather than 0?

But they say otocinclus cannot tahan nitrate levels also leh. Is 10ppm ok for planted tanks?
Usually will have some nitrate. Even our tap water has about 10ppm nitrate.
Zero or low nitrate usually due to no complete nitrogen cycle.

So meaning when plant growth stunted, likely is others like potassium, carbon dioxide is lacking instead of nitrates?

I keep the tank around 30 degree to kill off the ich. I also do frequent large water change of near 100% to remove floating stage of the parasite. Katapang leaves helps too as it release humic acid, tannin which are good for fish and shrimp. It can absorb heavy metal too.
Interesting! I been wondering what those leaves they put inside the aquarium is called 😄

Quarantine in a bare bottom tank. Easy to clean.

Some medication will stain silicon. So use a lousy tank for quarantine.

Use sponge filter. Easy to clean and sterilise. After clean, can put into matured tank to grow beneficial bacteria (bb) for next quarantine use.

No need plant, no need light / minimum light.

Quarantine for 1 month. If no problem AFTER 1 month then put into main tank.

Have medication/s on hand. Antibiotics, anti ich, salt, katapang leaves, deworm, anti fungal, etc.

Yes. Cause you dont know if it is carrying any hidden illness or not. Just monitor with clean water and alot of air. If unlucky and do get sick also easy to treat the fish in bare tank.

Can be many reasons. Every tank is unique. Can be light, co2 and NPK nutrients or micro nutrients.

Usually is co2 and N. Most people has high light.

Also plant dependent. High light plant, low light plant, fast grower, slow grower, root feeder, water column feeder etc.

Aqua plants donít come from seeds. Those plants will grow at first, small and round leaves. Very nice for first few weeks. I grew mine using seeds too. But they stay rooted well. Brush the soil a bit, floats up.

Heard from others that the plants will rot away at the roots after about 6 months.

Second this.

Just get dwarf sag. Very easy to carpet. Dont need CO2.
