My 3 Terrapins are siblings. They fight until eye almost drop out, tail always bleeding. Basically the water was always red. Back then I didnt know how to take care of them. Only provided a little water and crammed them in a small tank, their shells are now deformed. Bad karma I have since separated them but still no space to keep 3 separate 3ft tanks. So I only have 1 3ft tank for them to rotate every 3weeks. Its a miracle they survived till 22yrs old...

So they need lots of water to swim? Just bought a very big container for my terrapin. Should I buy some big stones so he can stay out of water when he feel like doing so?
Ur post made me recalled a frend drown his terrapin coz he thought need lots of water so he filled the whole tank with water and no resting/basking stones..

30cm is the biggest.

Those who want to keep terrapin. Just go to farrer park macdonal cafe. There is thousands of terrapin inside. Just secretly pick one and take it home. I think nobody will stop you. Those who want to give up can also drop it there.
Sometime I go there to hang out. I will throw my bread from burger into the pond.
kusu island got even more~

"Released into the wild as unwanted pets or for religious reasons, these sliders are the most frequently observed chelonian in Singapore waterbodies (Ramsay-et.-al.,-2007). Listed as one of the worst invasive species (Global Invasive Species Database [GISD]), they can be hazardous to native species such as the River-Terrapin (Batagur baska) and the Malayan-Box-Terrapin (Cuora amboinensis). This could threaten the precarious survival of some natives like the River-Terrapin, as it is listed as Critically Endangered by the IUCN."

Never wash for 10 years. Only wash filter.

Those who use a small tub with an inch of water to keep terrapins (aquatic turtles) really lack understanding what their pet needs. Terrapins are swimmers and need quite a big tank to swim in. Singapore only allowed 2-3 types of turtles and the most common are the Red Ear Slider (RES) with the red "ears" on each side of the head. RES are aquatic turtles and need plenty of water to swim in...not just the 2-3 inch of water to cover their shell.

Also sunlight is a must for them to produce the vitamin D in their body to absorb calcium to get a strong shell. I see quite a lot of people put their RES in a tub in the toilet or kitchen without any sunlight or good UVB light source but that can be remedied with good quality turtle food with vitamin supplementation but frankly I see most people also don't care about food just buy the cheapest in the LFS and feed them.
Yes this.
Terrapins are primarily aquatic, dry surface are for them to rest.
They need deep water and lots of it.
