I'm looking to setup something like ebay, where sellers can sell their items and I will earn some commission fees.

But I got poor knowledge of back-end stuff, I only learnt some basic php during poly.

What can I do? Buy e-commerce template or learn myself? I really don't like programming though.

Method 1: Outsource to freelancer who knows e-commerce solution like Magento, OsCommerce, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, OpenCart etc.

Costs: Freelance programmer's fees (development and maintenance), web, SSL and domain hosting, some solutions may require payment for license/support for production/commercial deployments.

Method 2: Pay for a hosted e-commerce storefront solution like Shopee, Shopify, Qoo10, eBay etc.

Costs: Monthly/yearly subscription for the host.

Either method is better than trying to code from scratch imo, unless you have a very unique requirement for running your e-commerce operation that cannot be met by any of the above solutions.

You have to research and see which one is more suitable, cost-wise and feature-wise.

The keyword u are looking for is "marketplace"

Not to diss you but if u are thinking of just "setup once then sit back and collect commissions" its not gonna work

Marketing and driving traffic to make it successful for ur sellers is key to ur biz, the technology is just an enabler

the first to come up with a marketplace idea? I highly doubt that, regardless of what you are going to specialise in.

In any case, magneto has the open source edition, that is free. What you linked to isn't just a template. Maybe you can talk to their sales staff to find out more.

I mean my idea is not a marketplace initially, but a website where people will visit because of the content. Then I will add in the marketplace after it gain popularity.

you can only search for ready made script and make modifications from it. Coding it from scratch is going to cost you a bomb.

Could I just buy template and learn to implement myself?
https://www.apptha.com/magento/marketplace
Or I need to buy both the template and magento together?

Don't worry about marketing and traffic, I already got that covered since I would be the first to come up this idea.

if you are not familiar with the technology, the companies that offer these modules usually also offer services to install/configure for you.

I would advise you to do so cos tbh magento's source is quite a beast to look at. dun get bogged down by this

To be honest, it's not gonna work.. Sorry to be wet blanket.

But of course, if you already have a huge network of clients that you handle manually, yay go ahead n make

If you're hoping to make one, attract people, you can only

1) have a lot of money
2) convince VCs to give you a lot of money
3) waste your time and suck thumb..
