Thanks. I am just wondering what underpinned MU's drop in prices given that the indices are now climbing - am quite sure that the markets would have factored in this demand for data storage. Were things priced to perfection and that was a hiccup? Guess we shall know when the next results get released and if the market was right in selling down this stock.

A fundamental rule in trading. Don't buy weak stocks in a strong market.

hmmm.... MU and FB are now starting to feature in my scanner for swing trade stocks to short. For FB, I noticed that it has been breaking down every time it touches the 20D EMA - it has done that 3 times ever since the sell off in July.
The 20D and 50D moving averages are turning south for MU.

demand for data storage capabilities

I read in SA articles and comments, and stocktwits, MU investors think it is no longer cyclical. The share price however swings even with earning beats, and now is dropping lower, the institution buyers still think it is cyclical? There is news China own memory plants will start in another year, so if MU revenue is so dependent on China, it will lose out in trade wars now, and next few years China servers will run China memory, it does not look good?

China no longer wants to talk with Trump le! Monday the US index and stocks will get a retreat? :s11:

Perhaps there is the difference between those who invest and those who trade :s12:

I do not see any fundamental differences between trading and investing. All the same save different time frames which means different stop loss levels. At the end of the day, it is about making money and either way, one would not want to be holding on to a weak stock.

How long can the stock market continue to ignore this trade war that is now stepping up a notch with tariffs being implemented? Last week, we see the markets making a relief rally on the back of a less aggressive than expected tariff being pushed out. This week, we see tariffs hitting the streets on both sides, with China refusing talks. Will the Market continue to shrug this off?

When it comes, you will know it. :s7:
China does not buy farm produce from US, she can buy from Canada or Brazil. US does not buy cheap gadgets from China, she will buy from elsewhere given enough time. Then China will sell to those who will export to US. And the trade wars continue...:o

There's only one right answer to this: buy 5-year nominal govvy bonds (not TIPS) and watch those rates collapse.

how does it work? is the return of the bonds fixed at the point of purchase say near to 3% now or does the return increase too according to the market offer?

So here's the deal.

Thing one: bond prices move inversely to yields. As yield goes down, prices will go up.

Thing two: When a recession comes, central banks tend to cut interest rates. That brings down the yield on government bonds (indirectly, but still). Also, people tend to want to buy government bonds during recessions, because they're more stable than stocks (and a great disinflation hedge).

Thing three: therefore, if a recession comes, the price of government bonds will go up.

On the TA side, MU's last death-x was Feb 2015 and last golden-x was on Jul 2016. When will trend up ?
