Travelling to Taiwan for the first time next month Will be staying in Taipei all the way for convenience, and was wondering if it's feasible to do a day trip to Taichung?

Still possible.
But how many days will you be in Taiwan?

Able to do that, however would be rush ...
Morning take hsr from tms to taichung, then from taichung hsr walk to xinwuri railway station, then take few stops to taichung railway station ...
one way already close to 2 hours ...

In the end, we decided to stay one night at taichung

Possible, but time wasted travelling to and fro by HSR/MRT/etc... It will be better if you hire a driver for the day. Taichung attractions are far apart.

Sorry for late replies.
Trip.com website for Jetstar is Aussie site. So basically if you have register Singapore's Jetstar website, you won't see any bookings for the trip. Have to use their method to log in separately to purchase all the extras. They only sell basic air tix.
After purchasing extras, no confirmation will be given. Even after doing online check-in, they don't give you confirmation. Have to call them to check with Jetstar. Wasted alot of time with them.
Can't even do online check-in for return trip.
