I'll be taking the train to Beitou and there's a shuttle bus to Xinbeitou. May go direct to Xinbeitou. Depends on the day itself.

I think my first day (14 July) is kinda wasted. Spending one whole day up north. But it seems like a waste of time to go for hotspring, return to city then to Tamsui. How long will the journey take (by mrt) from Taipei Main Station to Beitou?

abt 30 mins.. very fast then change mrt to xin betou...

for trip normally plan sight seeing in the morning..... afternoon shopping places, night plan for night market..

why wait until friday then buy mrt pass??
Cos the unlimited pass is for one day only. No point getting on the other days when I'm not travelling much on mrt. Only Friday then we will be travelling using mrt to visit those 'tourist' spots.

i got their ez link card on the 1st day liao...costs abt 500NT,inside the card there is 400NT worth of value...the rest of the 100NT is the cost of the card which can be claimed back on ur last day in taipei...the unlimited pass is very ex...not value for money...for me i didnt even top up my ez link card for my 5days stay in taipei and i still manage to claim back 80NT on top of the 100NT.

No lah, not much of a headache. Getting around is not a problem for me cos I've lived there back in 2000. Just that I want to be able to go to my favourite shopping places
and also have time for my bf to sightseeing (he doesn't really shop much!!!) I don't want to give him a chance to complain that we are spending most of the time shopping! Just hope that I can squeeze in enough time to visit friends, sightseeing and shopping!
haha okie ... for sightseeing i recommend jiufen and yeliu la ... so after seeing the pictures any comments? haha okie ...i like sightseeing too, i was formally from ODAC ... sick of cosmopolitan ... ttsy 5days is enuff to cover taipei for me ...

Hi,
The Shuttle Bus is not frequent during weekdays, only on weekends.

My suggestion is take MRT to Yuangshan. Exit #1 cross road diagonally to Soccer Stadium bus stop . From there you can take:21, Red 2 both very frequent. or 247, 287. Pronunced (May Li Hwa) From there to return to Taipei Station or Ximenting, take the 247 or 287 from across the road (Signboard should read- Hengyang Rd)

Lots of shops at HY road and Po Ai Rd area. I buy a lot of shirts there on discount : some up to 90% off at "Big Train" Good Brand. Again , as with anything luck play a an important part is finding bargains.

For a real good Changing of the guards, you got to go to The Martyrs' Shrine:
Built in Ming dynasty style to commemorate those who died in China's wars over the centuries. The formal changing of the guard attracts an interesting crowd of onlookers.

To get here, the route is same as above, but get off at the Shrine about 5 stops from Yuanshan MRT by any of those buses mentioned and bus no 208. Bus 208-some go to Miramar and some dont, so check if you use it for your trip.
