Hi, if I have some USD at hand, does it mean it's more favourable for me to change direct to NT$ when I reach Taipei?
Definitely as you dont have to change it to SGD then to NT.Not only that, you can change it at any Post office as well as approved banks.

Budget Hotel: Posted by Roy aka minghui79 on TA:

Some information on Future Star Hotel.
Excellent Location: 1 min walk from Ximen MRT Station exit 6. It is actually next to the "Zhen Shan Mei Theatre" where you can see the big plasma TV once you step out of exit 6 of Ximen Station.
It occupies 7-9 floors of a bdg. I stayed in the 9th floor.
Reminds me like a KTV lounge. She passed me the remote control when I checked in.
NT 1080 for all rooms in 9th floor becos according to the receptionist - they are more dated designs. If we want modern designs in our rooms, she recommended rooms in 7th floor (NT1380 onwards). Note: the counter is at level 7, so noise disturbance is an issue. Guests living in level 8-9 have to pass by level 7 on their way out.
9th storey is much quieter i gather.
Rooms are pretty ok for me (designs not that old anyway but its clean meaning - no bed bugs, no rats running around etc.)
However, the warmer in the room seems not working too well - we ended up wearing long john in the room. Also, notice a few stains on the comforter set. Condoms are provided - this could be a love hotel. Not too concerned though.
The bath tubs have sliding doors to prevent water seepage. All standard toiletries (toothbrushes, shavers etc all provided)
No breakfast - there's a lady selling porridge at a roadside stall downstairs - very friendly........
We extended another day and they gave us a NT200 discount........... So we paid NT 880 for the second day.
Overall rating : 8/10

Just want to know whether we need to buy mineral water from the supermarket or can consume the tap water by boiling it? I'm flying on this Friday, hope the weather is not so cold....
