Welcome!

Merely passing on the benefits I reaped over here...

Heehee...
Hey, my post to you dissappeared!!

Great blog, very amusing as well. I was particularly interested in your Jioufen Cabbie who took you to quite a few places . It is a good option for 4 people travelling together. It will save on the wear and tear of your leg muscles
I passed on the link to forumers at TA as many of them travel to Jioufen as well.

You had good waterfall pics as it was the period just after the heavy rains so the Waterfalls were gushing.

Isn't the Youth pass a nice souvenir!!!

Thanks for your post.

Reading from the Word document, look like it's not very convinient to visit the Shifen waterfall, due to the limited train service. I wonder is it easy to get a cab from Shifen to Jiufen?

hi according to nuttyanz, it's getting pretty cold in taiwan ranging from low of 7-10 degrees. I suggest u bring more warm clothings for ur children since they are so young. It's especially cold when the wind blows. But anyway, from my last month trip, there's lotsa shops selling cheap n nice winter clothes. So no worries if u wan more warmth.

Smelly tofu...i tried...nuthin special if u ask me haha. I din realli target wat to eat at taiwan, basically everythin ppl are recommending are found at the nite mkts (fengjia/shihlin etc?), n there's lotsa eateries ard taipei (at least, near taipei station whr i stayed at keymans). U can read thru the longggg list of posts so far in this thread if u have the time though. but since u are on a group tour, i tink everything shud be scheduled out for u.
It seem much cooler than i expected.........i shall keep track on tat bcos i hate to bring to many clothing there. I will read the long list asap. In the mean while I tot i just wanna to get some current up to date infor 1st. Thanks for yr kind tot & concern..........

According to the Inspectors, there are 33 areas that need to be improved or corrected but the THSR decided to go ahead anyway. I personally am not in a hurry.

All the places mentioned are outside of Taipei . To get there you have to take a train from Taipei Main Station(NOT MRT)
新竹新光三越 - Hsinchu
中壢SOGO中央032;館 Chungli
台中廣三SOGO Taichung
豐原太平洋SOGO Taichung
Have a good trip to Taiwan. It's going to be very cold at nights, so be prepared. Tonight lows 9C , Tomorrow Lows 7C.
Ciao for now

I cant remember the pricing for the boat ride as the ticket was privided by Laurel Villa when i was staying there, it is part of the package. You can see alot of boat ride operator around the lake so you might want to compare the pricing.

There are quite a few eateries serving steamboat and the usual fare of beef noodles. I personally like to eat at Laurel Villa because the price is good and most of the veggies are organic, according to the owner, they have grown most of the veggies themself.

The rail is running fine. I took it last week and certainly didn't feel like a beta tester.

My cousin told me she paid NT400 during her tour but I found out from this website that boat ride is NT300.

On the phone, Laurel Villa's 王先生 sounded very warm hospitality and not commericial. The current room package NT1990 include 2 boat tickets and 2 dinners, just NT490 additional to the normal room rate.

This is a review on Laurel Villa:

Yes , Mr Wang is a very warm and helpful person. On the very first day when we were there and waiting for our room to be prepared, he gave us a introduction of the history of sun moon lake and also places ard the lake that are worth visiting. His friendliness make you feel more like a friend rather than a customer.

The photos in the review did not do justice to the room, it actually looks much better than the photos, very clean and neat.

As mention in the review, the place is manage by Mr Wang family, very friendly people.
