Hi all,
I've booked the SQ 2 to travel S$288 to Taipei and am going there with 2 of my friends. Have also made hotel booking with Rainbow hotel @ NT2,180 (for triple sharing).
After ploughing through 40 odd pages of this thread, I am thinking of :-
1. going to Alisan - would a day trip suffice ? Understand it takes about 4 hours to reach there? Could anybody let me know how long it takes, where do i take the train from (Taipei Railway?) which stop? If it takes more than a day, where would you recommend we stay for a night?
2. if not Alisan then probably to Jiufen or Hualian. How do we get to Hualian, again do we take the train from Taipei railway? How long is the journey and can we cover it in a day? I read from the recommendation by Byondgai about the hualian minsu, could you let me have further details? sorry to be a noob what is "Minsu"
3. ANybody know where I can go to get railway times for these trip?
4. Will probably also go to Danshui. Anyother place worth visiting? What about Wulai Falls?
Thanks

Hi Kahlan, hope these can be of help :p
1. I would suggest u to spend a nite over at alishan. Arrange for a sunrise-watching trip wif ur hotel there cos its really worth it. U can take a 8.30am bus from Taipei railway station to jiayi (嘉義). From here, take the 1.30pm train-ride up alishan. U might be able to watch cherry blossom during this period of time U can find all other info ie hotel stay from this website - www.ali.org.tw
2. Jiufen is in Taipei hence gg there is rather easy, trip can be done in a day - http://phys.cts.nthu.edu.tw/workshop...sportation.htm
Hualian is abt 3hrs away from Taipei (if u take the cheaper train from Taipei railway station). Again, its better to spend a nite there to explore the place. U can get more infor on lodging at this website - http://www.poja.com.tw/ (Minsu is staying over at other ppl's house, the one i went to plays a very gd host n can be contacted at http://home.kimo.com.tw/ix0701/index.htm)

Trust Beyondgal. You won't be wrong. I took her advice and stayed at that place. Really, really very wonderful host. They're very flexible, so if you just let them know what you like to do or see, they can arrange. Because they are nice people, you be nice to them back too lah.

Hi, yes the $288 is for return excluding taxes of S$95. So total is S$383. I believe it is still available but you must booked by 15 April and travel by 30 April (I think). Also minimum 2 to travel. I am going for 4 days (technically) as the flight leaves morning on 24 April (sigh all the afternoon flights do not seem available for this promotional fare).
Thanks for the information.

Hi Beyondgal,
Thanks so much for the detailed information. Sounds great. Will probably take the trip to Alisan as suggested by you and stay a night. Hmm however as I only have 4 days in Taipei, not sure if we have the time to go to Hualian (which also sounds good. Between the 2 which is better? although as you can see I'm leaning towards Alisan as there are cherry blossoms.

I called them on their mobilephones. Try calling Chen Tai Tai first, if u cant get her, then get her son. I called her twice - once in S'pore n once in Taipei to confirm my arrival time in Hualian. She'll pick u up at the train station...

ooh.. 4 days is too short a time to go both places i guess
u shld go alishan then since cherry blossom only comes once a yr during this period of time. i din manage to go there while i was in Taiwan last sept due to typhoon (mudslides over there then, wat a pity)...
u can always go hualian again i guess.. i would also suggest u guys to go Qing Jing Farm the next time u visit Taiwan again.
