Hi nuttyazn,

Thanks for the information. I have been waiting for you and have something to consult you.

As I will be reaching Taichung via High Speed Rail, I would like to know what's the best option to continue my journey to Alishan on next day morning.

I currently have three options after my own research and advice given by Shadus.

Option 1:
- Reach Taichung High Speed Rail station
- Purchase High Speed Rail ticket for next day morning from Taichung to Chiayi.
- Upon reaching Chiayi High Speed Rail station, buy ticket for public bus to Ali Shan. (I do not know if I can get any Ali Shan tour package at Chiayi High Speed Rail station).

Option 2:
- Reach Taichung High Speed Rail station
- Proceed to Taichung train station to buy ticket for next day morning from Taichung to Chiayi.
- Sign up for a tour package for Ali Shan at around Chiayi train station so that along the way up, I can still get to visit some tourist attractions/spots.

Option 3:
- Reach Taichung High speed Rail station
- Find bus/coach service from Taichung to Alishan. (not sure)

I would prefer to be able to visit some tourist attractions/spots along my way up to Alishan because I will only be staying there for 1 night only. And after sunrise and breakfast next morning, I will return to Taipei. But how... not sure yet because I'm still trying to figure out which option is more suitable for me.

Can you please give me some advice in terms of time/duration, getting hold of tickets and able to visit some tourist spots along my way up to Alishan? (Of course, taking into consideration the best way to return to Taipei)

Typhoon can come in October too if i'm not wrong.

If you are only in Taipei, there isn't anything much to worry about as typhoon usually take about 1-2 days to pass by Taipei. Typhoon in Taipei is also less severe than other parts of Taiwan. Most of the time is continous rain and stronger wind.

So if really suay, you will only have to take umbrella around and spend 1-2 days in the shopping malls/indoor facilities.

Typhoons hv appeared as late as Dec.
Taipei is surrounded, sort of, by mountains. its like a bowl. so its somewhat protected from strong winds, just face lots of rain. but do watch the news if u're caught by typhoon, it'll give u advise esp. which time period u shd avoid being outdoors.

Yes, taipei can be affected by typhoon, by earthquake, by mudslides, by severe cold fronts.

Just go for it. Typhoon cannot predict one. It's all a matter of luck during typhoon season. And typhoon in Taipei is usually not that serious as compared to other provinces/parts of Taiwan.
