I will be going to taipei in oct. I was still deciding whether to get air tickets and hotels myself, or going thru the tour agency to book for me. I will be on free and easy trip with my fren. What do u all suggest
Based on my experience, if you are going in big group of maybe around 8-10 people and want to save on lodging, then it's better to book yourself and look for hotel that can cater for 4-6 persons/room. This way it will be cheaper because rooms you get through agency are usually for 2-3 persons/room and not as cost-effective as getting those 4-6 persons/room.

If you are looking for 2-3 persons/room, then it doesn't really matter where you book your hotel from although booking directly with hotel might save you a few bucks but with the chores of making deposit(sometimes) or even full payment and have to confirm by calling the hotel, stuff like that.

As for the air tickets, look out for promotion of the airline you wanna take (if any). If there is promotion, then it's cheaper to book yourself.

For one reason I do not know why. One year ago, I got it cheaper through agency as compared to the price on airline webby (no promotion of course). But this time, many agencies quote me a higher price than the one published on the airline webby.

So it's best that you compare the price given by the website and the price given by the agency. The later you get your tickets, the more expensive it is.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi,
http://www.gocityinn.com
http://www.taipeionestarhotel.com.tw
http://www.wonstar.com.tw
http://www.neijiang-hotel.com.tw

Actually TS has become very popular. I was there a couple of weeks ago booking rooms for my family, there was a real large group of HKers leaving by Freego at that time. (I thought it would be better to put my folks in a Hotel, clean rooms, aircon e.t.c. better than my house!!)
