hi where can i find hotel rates around xi men ding area? any afforable and good hotel to intro? thanks!
http://www.tshotel.com.tw/english/02_guestroom.htm

I stayed there from 22 Dec - 5 Jan.
Tried Solo Suite, Superior Suite & Deluxe Suite with wood tatami.

5 minutes walk from XMD Metro station to hotel.
There's also Rainbow Hotel right smack in the middle of XMD. (Think its more expensive.)
Wonstar along/around XMD... etc.

wow I should have read this thread way earlier... leaving tomorrow morning 1st SQ flight to Taipei... abit too late lor...

I was wondering about the weather, the websites say 11-13 Degree Celsius? Need to bring trenchcoats?

Those who are based there... can help answer... I don't wish to bring too many thick clothings... free up space for my shopping mah... not PPS so only 20kilos baggage allowance!

I was recently in Shanghai, below 10 degrees, need 2 - 3 layers including thermal to keep warm and have to wear boots...
just got back.
heard that it will go down even cooler later in this month.
this morning i wore 2 tees and a jacket it was pretty ok. 16-18 degrees if im not wrong.

think if its 8-9 degrees.
better wear 2 tees. jacket and windbreaker etc...

but must see if you are scared of cold.
my friend wore sleeveless and a normal jacket.
and she wasn't even cold. what's more. slippers. O_O
perhaps cos she stayed in US for a long time. so yeah. it all depends!

I bought FarEastTone/遠傳's prepaid sim card.
Bought the NT$1000 value. Cos it has more value inside. Think NT$3000.

Overseas sms costs NT$5.
Local sms(Taiwan) costs NT$3.

Overseas calls NT$8.4/min.

Need to be 20 and above to get it though. /=
(So get your friends or someone to get it.)

Local(Taiwan) free incoming calls.

I don't know if you will keep calling home. But I did it very often.
Hence, I used about NT$3000 for phone calls -_-!!!

Top up cards for prepaid sim card can be bought from 7-11 stores... etc.
Prepaid sim card best to get it at airport cos can activate it immediately.
If you get it outside, then need within 24 hours...
Their prepaid sim cards can only be bought from the telco company itself. /=
During my last trip to Taiwan, I went to XMD 台湾大哥大 to buy a prepaid sim card, they insisted on getting the hotel detail before allowing me to buy, stating regulation requirement, in addition to my photo ID.

This One Star Hotel is not related to the XMD WonStar.
http://www.taipeionestarhotel.com.tw/

When I arrived in March 2007, they told me not accepting credit card and I did not bring that many NT. So I have to scout around XMD and Taipei Main Station for other hotel room. TS and WonStar were full.

Since I had no confirmed room, 台湾大哥大 did not allow me to buy a prepaid sim card. But I need that sim card to call up hotel for room! The girl felt sorry and used her phone to help me calling. Luckily we found Miyi Hotel and still have a memorable stay.

I went to Plush on a Wed night...girls so so lah..no bikini de...not much people also..
That depends on when you go, where you go, and the special programs they offer at night. You need to stay longer to understand the nightlife culture in Taiwan.

For me, its easy since i stay there most of the time when I'am free.
