you have to produce 2 things:

1. airtix
2. accomodation booking details

They need to have the booking details of your accomodation. Anything less than the 2 they won't give one. Can give them a call at 62236546 (Taiwan Visitors Association). Even if you staying at budget hotels, can request for them to fax over a confirmation.
so if i book hotel under my name only, but got 3 air tickects..how?

Then you should get 3 gifts. When I was there, they just wanted to see a confirmation of the hotel accom and the air tickets. Number of gifts depend on number of names on the air ticket. They might have changed gifts le. Think Jul-Sept is one gift and Oct-Dec is another gift.

I am going to Taipei on the 8th August with my family. Should be staying there for 3 days. I am planning to go LongShan temple, Shilin Night Mkt, Taipei 101, The National Palace Museum. Which hotel will you all recommend to stay? Preferably closer to these places and the airport and not too exp=). And is there any other " must-visit" place?

thanks for the advice.
1) does the stone house have ensuite loo and shower in each room?
2) I should book the minsu then book a tour guide too? was thinking of engaging mr Lu whom has rave review
3) read that we can play fireworks and kong ming deng at the minsu, do i need to tell liu ah yi when i call to book?
4) when calling from singapore from a hp or land line do i just dial the exact number listed or do i need those 001 thingy?

1) Yes
2) Up to u, but Aunty Liu tour guide include misc things like bringing u to buy "cong you bing", firework or bring u to dinner then back to minsu w/o extra charges. So if ur tour guide provide such service then it is really up to u.
3) Firework and kong ming lantern at ur own cost. Firework, they will take u to a place which is cheaper rather buyin from night market. Kong ming lantern is bought from Aunty Liu herself, i tink is NTD$200.
4) U need to call +(country code)(number) = +8860933-485552.
I am starhub so i use 018 so is 018886933485552

i did not try the jiang mu ya cos i didnt know til i came back. But a lot of pple say worth trying. Night market i tink is better to try the 小吃.

Basically she jus need to know when u r arriving and time u will reach the train station. One thing i like aunty liu is she dun chase u on the payment of the stay unless is the last day la. During my stay, it is always i ask to her for payment.

Agree with Shadus! Please dun be a bad SGian thinking the world owe us and we can do what ever we want!

But I have also heard of one Minsu owners lamenting that some SGian did not keep to their words and do a no show. Some only informed 1 day before to say they are not turning up.

I was almost not able to book a nice minsu because of this. Luckily they gave a last chance to trust another SGian, and I kept my promise and showed up. Of course, I had been keeping in touch with the minsu owner constantly to give them a piece of mind. I hope I was able to amend for the breach of trust by the group of SGian before me...
