3) is that place called nei jiang? think i watched that episode also, but i have absolutely no idea where it is. cannot find the address from their website also.. sucks man
you are referring to this http://www.leecooutlet.com.tw/about.htm ?

Thank a lot!

For domestic calls, you can buy a local phone card from any 7/11 or buy a prepaid sim card at the airport or any of the service providers branches all over the city - I am sure it is cheaper than most Auto Roam service.
Do you have any idea how do they call prepaid sim card in chinese?
My friend was laugh by some sh*t guys when she went to get the prepaid card the last time she went.

You can ask for 预付卡 (prepaid card).

At the airport on arrival, turn left after you clear the customs. There is a counter selling prepaid sim cards. I got 台湾大哥大 for NT$345.

Hi,

Benefited quite a lot from this thread so I would like to share some findings from my recent trip.

Before you spend any money on traveler's guide, head down to Welcome2Taiwan site download free english and chinese guides.
http://www.welcome2taiwan.net/eng_2006/download.html
http://www.welcome2taiwan.net/cht/download.html

They also have good guides on food and attractions
http://www.welcome2taiwan.net/cht/ho...Secondary_id=1

Exchange rate was 22.8 the day we left, 4 Mar.

Standard cab ride starts from NT70

Hotels
I stayed at KDM Hotel www.kdmhotel.com.tw and Miyi Hotel www.miyi.com.tw, both hotels are clean.

KDM hotel is right next to Zhong Xiao Xin Sheng MRT station exit and near Kwang Hua mall.
https://egedyw.blu.livefilestore.com...E/DSC_0048.jpg
https://egedyw.blu.livefilestore.com...w/DSC_0049.jpg
https://egedyw.blu.livefilestore.com...s/DSC_0050.jpg
Breakfast us available at NT200 but you will be better off taking a short MRT ride to Shan Dao Shi MRT 1 station away and eat at 阜杭豆浆 (https://egedyw.blu.livefilestore.com...A/DSC_0086.jpg). Internet connection is free and wifi is available at the restaurant on ground floor. There is a 24hr coin op laundry shop within walking distance.

Miyi is located near the rear entrance of Shin Kong Mitkoushi opposite Taipei station.
https://egedyw.blu.livefilestore.com...o/DSC_0098.jpg
Breakfast is free and there is wifi access in each room. Aircon is a bit too cold even at the lowest setting. Plenty of shops nearby for breakfast or supper. A lot of bookstores at the nearby ChongQing road too.

Weather
Weather was gloomy throughout our trip but cleared up on the last day. Temp around 15 to 22 depends on whether there is clouds or not. Bring a wind breaker as the winds are chilling.

Sky turns dark at 6:30pm at this time of the year so go early if you visiting places such as Danshui.

Check the weather before visiting outdoor areas, we end up with a soggy visit to Jiufen and others complain of waking up early for Alishan sunrise but ended up only seeing rain.

https://egedyw.blu.livefilestore.com...k/DSC_0168.jpg

Taroke
You can visit Taroke from taipei by taking a train ride down to Hualian. There is a express train that takes 2hr 10mins to reach Hualian and it is also named 自強號 on the schedule. You need to check the duration to tell which one is the express train.
http://new.twtraffic.com.tw/twrail/
自強號 cost NT445 but there is another train call 莒光that cost NT350 per ride and has wider seats (3 per row) but takes 3hrs. A typical example below, the 1st row is the express train (has 太魯閣號 in the comments). 2nd is the slow round island tour train.

At Hualian, you can take a half day tour from 11am to 4:30pm to Taroke at NT$650. Brochures are available at the Taipei train station travellers consultation counter and you should call ahead to book.
We took the A choice from this package.
http://www.taiwantourbus.com.tw:8080...80&VideoID=173

There is a nice LaoZhouBaoZi in Hualian city where you can have a good meal for very cheap prices.
https://bu6gqw.blu.livefilestore.com...o/DSC_0347.jpg

Raohe Night Market
It is easier to take a train from Taipei station to songshan station since it is closer than any mrt station. You can use the EasyCard on such train rides in taipei as well.

蛙書店八德總店:
服務專線:02-27787090*
台北市八德路2段3號(舊光華商場旁玉市第三間)

Near Taipei Station, short cab ride. Bigger selection as they are also distributors. You can walk west from Zhong Shan MRT but its easier to take a cab.

Shipping
Boxes max 30kg can be purchase for NT100 at the post office and i managed to squeeze ard 50 books and ship them by sea for NT490. The shipment has not arrive yet so I don't know how long it will take.

Odds and Bits
If you are a Ice Cream fan, Cold Stone Creamery is a famous chain from USA and they have a interesting way of preparing the ice cream.

TGI Friday is also nice but a tad too expensive. A full slab of Jack Daniels Ribs cost NT899 but there are cheaper meals at NT299.

Don't miss Papaya Milk 木瓜牛奶 drink available everywhere. Very nice taste and helps to clear your stomach everyday for the next eating spree.

If you get a hotel room with all the cable channels (over 100), don't miss the 百面勇 informercials showing late night, damn funny. http://forum.ruten.com.tw/replylist.php?article=3703046

Read that it is a bit cheaper than there for certain stuffs (not in this thread). If you have specific brand to buy do find out it's name in chinese as they might not understand even though it is well known.

I noticed that su-ao cold spring is a good option to add into your itinerary when going to hualien from taipei or vice versa. Only Italy and Taiwan has it. Since it is near the railway station of su-ao and quite cheap it's worth a try especially during the summer. http://suao.hotweb.com.tw/p03.htm

Don't flame me if it sucks.

I think the price bounced back.

I didn't change at the price, I was walking past the money changer in Taiwan on 4 Mar when returning to Singapore that I saw the selling rate was 22.8.

Not sure if that was a panic selling that day because I remember the Taiwan news reporting historic low of NT35 to US$1.

I changed at Mustafa at a rate of 22.08 and it seems to have dropped now.

Thanks for replying. I'm thinking on the below route but not sure if it is feasible for Rueifang, Pingsi and Su-ao to be considered as part of the round the island.
Taipei -> Yilan -> Su-ao (possible?) -> Hualien -> Kaohsiung -> Chiayi -> Taichung -> Taipei
Depending on your program-Suao can be a stop on your main journey. However-Rueifang AND Pingshi better to buy seperately as you can buy the pingshi day pass for only NTD54.
