Thanks. Checked the bottom of my Mi Box. Its MDZ-16-AB.
Good. Then this is a certified box running official Android TV OS and support 4K Netflix.

What can I do with a Mecool M8S Pro ? Can play games ? Is it worthwhile getting a game controller as it's pretty old, I think. Any advice on what's a suitable controller ?

Thanks for any input. Appreciated.

Which exact M8S Pro model?

M8S Pro and M8S Pro L: Amlogic S912 CPU with 3GB RAM

M8S Pro W: Amlogic S905W with 2GB RAM.

It will depend on the game you want to play. S912W is not too bad a CPU for casual Android games.

But to me in general it is not really worth using Android TV boxes for gaming, unless you have RK3399, S922X or better CPU (eg: Beelink GT-King, Nvidia Shield TV).

Hi, I have an old TV inherited from Mum's place. I think need to buy TV tuner. I wonder will it be good to just get a TV box and install to watch shows, netflix and stuffs?

Any recomendation?

3229 is faster than s805, but half the speed compared to s905.

however, all can play fhd video well when using hardware decoding.

the fast/slow perception is from opening / closing apps and other UI Operations.

Yes as long as the TV has an HDMI port.

Box to recommend: Google Chromecast 2020 (faster and better than Mi Box S but a bit more expensive) or Mi Box S, both are certified to run Netflix at 720p/1080p/4K.

For MediaCorp FTA channels, yes it is easier to buy a DVB-T2 tuner Box plus the antenna. However, you can also cast to TV using meWatch app from the mobile phone if you do not watch them often, if you buy boxes like Chromecast 2020 or Mi Box S.
