Android TV Box

Android TV Box. Any models to recommend ? Thank you.

Personally I like the Minix Neo U1. Its got a good quality built and online community support. There are a lot of cheaper china-made android boxes though...

Yes, I'm looking for cheaper ones. Thanks.

I'm looking for more expensive models to replace my Windows PC. Quite sick of Windows updates, a sheer waste of my valuable time & electrical energy.

Any good, high end models with new, powerful features? And also reduce my carbon footprint ...

But how do you replace a PC with a TV box ?

Why not? I'm only using my Windows 64 bits PC to download my monthly bank statements & read them in Foxit PDF reader on my external monitor. No complicated stuff involved.

Agree. Thats what I'm thinking too hence I did some research on this already. Suggest u to consider getting via Amazon, there are lots of TV box running on windows 10. Specs below are just USD 105.
There are other TV Box that runs on Android (even cheaper).

Wintel pro W8 Windows 10 Mini PC Destop Smart TV Box Media Player with Intel Cherry Trail Z8300 Quad-core 4K HD 2GB RAM 32GB Disk HDMI 2.4GHz Wifi Bluetooth4.0 USB3.0 (2GB+32GB)

Prefer using Android instead of Windows :
First, more secure and robust, no need worry too much on ransom-wares & security issues.
Second, is the hassle free updates, saving me valuable time and electrical energy consumption.
Third, is cheaper because Android is a free operating system, with lots of supported apps which are freely available on Google Play Store.
Also smaller footprint & using much lesser system resources, less heat dissipation.
Buy Minix from local distributor has got 3 years warranty (one to one exchange).

Install and use original apps like YouTube, Yahoo Mail, Dropbox & WhatsApp etc. is not an issue.

Even if you don't update, still working well. The problems are usually arising from apps that are shady, and download illegal contents. If you use original stuff like Netflix, don't think would give users any trouble.

So, always use a reputable antivirus app, and established apps which doesn't infringe other's intellectual property.

Besides Minix, AC Ryan Veolo 4K would be a safer bet. Always see that Mediacorp's artiste Wilson Ng at their booth.

What version did you get and at what price ?
Did you do a research online for the price of the same tv box ?

Just know there is one auntie selling it at SLS.

icekachang72 02-09-2017 12:47 PM

Bought Minix Neo U9H yesterday. Image of most of the channel is reasonably ok. But only the sound volume differs one channel to another. Has to constantly adjust the volume for different channels.

Time to dump away my Starhub subscription. However the image quality of local TV channels are really CMI from the android box. I have to revert using antenna to watch local channels if unsubscribe from Starhub.

whatever I can install on the android box I also can install on my android phone so you're telling us using android phones are also crossing the copy right line?

As long as you steer clear of installing illegal android apps that broadcast copyrighted films/programs you have nothing to be afraid of. Its how you use the equipment... not that the equipment is the problem even though it has the capability.

Was there yesterday. Minix Neo U9-H at $299 seems like a hit on people's affordability. Although AC Ryan Veolo 4K wasn't at this show this time round (maybe due to high hall rentals), if I'm not mistaken it was selling below the $200 mark previously. Definitely a more attractive deal. For $300, there's little motivation to go for an Android box, right?

DUH......nowdays? Amconics have been chopping carrot heads since dont know when. Back when i got my 1st minix x5 around 5 years ago, i remembered comparing prices and amconics was selling for at least $100+ more compared to other shops or online sources. How do you think they went from 1 small shop to double the retail space now at sim lim? Every IT fair or trade fair still have goondus willingly let them chop.....

ceestudent 02-09-2017 06:55 PM

So online price from lazada is $179 and their shop at comex sell it at $ 299? :s22:

This Minix Neo U9H was also selling at $299 during March show. If you buy just the box without the IPTV, then it is just $199. I didn't commit in March as I wasn't very sure. It took me 6 months from then to do some research on Android TV boxes before I decide to try on Minix yesterday.

The reason I'm willing to pay for it is presumably the after-sales support given by Amconics. Unless Amconics close shop, then I will LLST. There are many Android boxes in the market, some are so cheap that I don't even want to buy them.

Paying $299 is an expensive buy for me, but I will dump away my $50 monthly subscription from Starhub soon to offset the cost in long term.

My family now is enjoying the box with so many channels on the IPTV.

Becuz of carrot heads like you thats why unscrupulous sellers like amconics and red bean are thriving. Better pray your box or iptv app dont suddenly stop functioning because good luck going back to amconics for help when problem arises.

Bro, to each his own. Like what you mentioned, my box screw up I still can go back to Amconics to bang table. Better than those buy from online sellers that don't even have any table to bang. I'm enjoying the IPTV so far.

iPTV is just live channels app which bundle with minix.. although $299 is quite ex consider other brands.. iptv which they bundle comes with 4 yrs subscription.. not 3 yrs as they mentioned.. so after calculations should be reasonable.. normally live channel subscription around 80-100 per yr..
And u can change the subscription to ur new box if u decide to upgrade minix over the yrs

The reason why I hesitated on Minix is this key consideration : Amconics is the one & only exclusive distributor, which sort of making the device here a monopoly, no longer a free market. So a user's options may be limited should issues arise later. Like the company decided to shut down for good. But overall, I guess they are doing a better job than other brands of Android box , with the exception of AC Ryan's Veolo 4K which also seems like quite a good deal at below $200 price level.

Ryan just sell the hardware and the software part is your tai ji.
AMC promised you the sky about the software.
I remember a lot of unhappiness about the software support few years back on this supplier.
I am not sure whether they still like that.
Just do a little research on the technical specification for the box before you buy cos they may smoke you something else.
When in doubt, dun buy.
