not sure how changing windows factor into this, as you can change windows but you cannot change the size of the window.

I am replacing the windows completely, adding more tracks and widening the windows panel size. Anyway, I saw other unit mounting it on the outer wall panel as well.

Anyone have experience where aircon installer combine the suction and vapor lines (2 aircon copper pipe) into one insulation tube on the final leg before reaching the aircon... Something like a Y shape from 2 seperate armaflex insulation combine to 1. Isit the correct way to install?

Some used to do it. But it’s a lazy way.
the main purpose of the insulation is to prevent condensation. A secondary purpose of somewhat protecting the tubes. When you squeeze the 2 tubes together, it can be over long periods of time the tubes can rub together due to the slight vibrations from the compressor and leak. It’s rather rare, but why risk it.
The only reason i can think off is to reduce the thickness of the insulation as it runs behind and under the Aircon casing.

I am looking to change my 7 year old aircons but after reading all the posts from this year seems like the main problem is finding a good and reliable aircon installer/contractor :ROFLMAO:

Spoke to a few air con installer, the good one will 'remain' you about this 'issue'.

The reason they gave is...there is/might space constraint at the back of the aircon thus need to combine when near the air con, but when out of the air con back, it should all be separate insulation e.g. 2x copper pipe with 2x individual insulation.
To be frank, i got no ways to verify it.

Hi like to seek some opinions regarding a quote i got for system 3 Mitsubishi heavy industries SCM80YSW (9+12+12) for $3499 nett. Salesman suggested to use this compressor for above configuration as he says it's rated 33K btu and will be better if i intend to switch on 3 FCU at the same time. May i know for old hdb flats that have not yet been upgraded to a higher electrical loading, would it be a problem? Currently, I'm using a 15 amp switch for system 5 Fujitsu. Will i be able to use back this 15 amp power switch for the new system 3 MHI? Thank you.

well, either tear down the wardrobe, or reuse the old piping. pick one.

Just lay new exposed piping, that all.

Hi, may i clarify if my flat has a maximum total running current allowed of 8.5amps,does it mean that i should be looking for a rated 29K BTU compressor? Would a rated 33K BTU compressor be too much? I'm deciding between getting a 9K+9K+12K or 9K+12K+12K configuration. Which would be more ideal for my situation? Thank you.

it is not so simple. the original piping would likely have been the most efficient piping route, and to run a different route could be either impossible, or create a very inefficient piping route.

I'm just saying there's more than 2 choices..

should be 8.5A limit for the aircon, and not the total current limit for the entire apartment. you would need the compressor to run in current limited mode. you can look at product brochure to see how each combination will perform under each compressor. I see very little difference, since 33k is only marginally more than 29k (for Starmex 33k main difference is that it supports system 4)

no that wasn't your response. your response is that laying a new piping route is the better solution, which I'm saying that there are caveats to this option.

I'm currently using a 15 amp power socket and do not have a 20 amp isolator. Would a 33K compressor cause any forseen problems like a power trip? Thanks.

After 2 months+ of searching and calling, I have finally make a decision to go ahead with one of air con shop, so far experience with them is quite good, be it site survey or answering my queries. Hopefully it will be a good experience during the installation.

For those still looking out, all the best!
