Right now SG govt is playing god, they think they are qualified to make decisions for lower SES people. I do agree that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks for society, but people should have the freedom to choose themselves. There should be no discrimination against vaccinated or unvaccinated people. Instead of being transparent and forthcoming about the side effects, they resort to peer pressure, lies and deceit to mislead people into jabbing.
Odds of severe side effects is low, but the consequences is very heavy for those unfortunate ones. Compensation for vaccine injury is supposed to spread out these consequences among the whole population to help those affected families cope. If the odds of severe side effect is indeed that low as reported, everyone in Singapore pay $10 can help pay out the entire vaccine injury compensation already.
Those are harsh words man.. it's easy to fan emotions in times like these, but I'm curious why you can say with great conviction that lies, deceit, discrimination and peer pressure is involved?
For discrimination, I know of people who have been strongly urged to take vaccine due to their line of work, but have decided not to due to personal choice. They continued working and nobody except those close to them know that they didn't take the vaccine.
For peer pressure, as the phrase literally means, it's up to your peers to actually pressure you, not the government. The incident about teachers calling up parents, hardly many accounts from teachers were made here, but most people assumed the teachers were actively persuading the parents, even claiming it's their KPI (hope nobody actually believes this). There are many teachers in Singapore, just go ask around and find out the truth.
Regarding vaccinating students, it's definitely a grey area.. but I feel that students are actually more vulnerable to contracting the infection than we think, even if the disease is less severe for them. Why? Look at their hygiene habits, many don't give a damn about covid actually. Those with children should understand.
It's no secret that the government hopes for vaccination progress, because the current situation is unsustainable really. Lockdown for close to 1.5 years and counting. Yes it is as much about the economy as it is about health. Those lucky to be in sectors unaffected are probably focused on the health, but there are those in sectors affected that probably wish for things to end.
Maybe the govt should really just take a huge paycut to appease the crowd, feels like that is the source of all discontent.
