Hi, planning a trip for end October, is it top early for koyo season? Was reading and seems like places like Nikko might be possible but of course will depend on weather condition.

Not really looking at November cos my mum specifically requested for "light jacket weather" lol.

@ash like snow
as a fellow food lover, I would say this : not everything can be brought back one :s13: some of the good stuff, just buy bring back hotel and eat it!

@laeticia
temperature not low enough, you will not get much koyo, you can consider Hokkaido? But it will be "cooler"

Am planning for an early Nov trip to kansai-hiroshima area.

tentatively here's the schedule - can help me see if it's too tight? I'm traveling alone (4th time to japan, never been to Hiroshima)

Day 1: SIA flight touching down KIX 9.20pm (should i stay at KIX for a night? or take to risk to travel to Osaka? thinking of find accomodation around shinsabashi/yodobashi area)

Day 2: Hang around Osaka, maybe go Minoo park? since its autumn.

Day 3: USJ

Day 4: Himeji + Kobe

Day 5: Hiroshima - is miyajima worth going in autumn? (staying at Hiroshima)

Day 6: Hiroshima (peace park, hiroshima castle, downtown) - travel to Kyoto

Day 7: Kyoto (day trip since it's near to osaka)

Day 8: Kyoto

Day 9: Taking early flight out

This is super rough outline. havent really booked anything yet. just browsing because now SIA tickets are about 770+ for the period i'm looking at. And for railway pass, i think the one most suitable is JR Kansai Hiroshima Area Pass? I just activate from Day 4 to day 8.

Let me know all your thoughts!

If anyone could offer some advice.

Might be just me but I'd rather spend all 8-9 days in Kyoto. Perhaps you can spill 1-2 nights in Osaka if you are into shopping. You can include Nara and Arashiyama too. I've not been to Hiroshima so can't recommend if you need a night there.

If u flying back from osaka...
Near umeda station got one supermarket sell almost all the goodies from whole Japan....
They even sell the kyoto famous tea.. Sake Dassai 23 ... Hokkaido corn white chocolate.... Etc...

Hokkaido if u going in spring not so scenic.... Not many seafood.... Only wild flower n wild veggie etc....
I would say summer onwards till winter will be a better time...
Each of these has it special reason n scenic view.....

Spring time other parts of Japan has more festival etc....
It all depends on your interest etc.....

Anyway it wun be your last trip to Japan.....
So slowly explore.....

Hokkaido will be better if u got more pax joining u...
As it consider as farm land....
Thus travel from point A to point B can b in hours....

So will b more fun if can gather afew more to group it as road trip in mini bus....
This way then u can really see more n beautiful scenic view etc...
N of cos can eat more variety of food.....

Other parts of Japan whereby train system r much better... Will be easier for u n your mum to move around.....

Thanks for the tips, have decided to stick to Tokyo this upcoming trip but will be bringing my mum to Konatsu Onsen for an overnight trip. My mum likes such things so I hope she will enjoy it, only deterrent is the long journey there

never done Osaka to Hiroshima myself but I would not consider it a day trip

why not spend some time in kyushu region? Kumamoto is also a nice place to visit
