NEX only have reserved seat? So if I want to take NEX from Narita to Tokyo, must I reserved seat online first prior to arrival? If so where to reserved ah?

No need to do so before you arrive in Narita. Just buy from the JR counter there after arrival. Very very rarely do they sell out (never seen before). There is also Keisei Skyliner if your destination is Ueno/nippori area.

seat fee is the additional charge for limited express and shinkansen. there is a seat fee regardless whether it is reserved or unreserved seat, with unreserved seat having a lower seat fee
NEX only have reserved seats iirc
Thanks! In this case shld I still get the Hakone free pass? I am actually taking the limousine bus to Shinjuku when I arrive. 1 way is 3,100yen but if I buy round trip it is 4,500 yen. Then get the Hakone free pass 5,140yen and spend a night in Hakone. Next day head to Odawara to see plum blossoms then back to airport. My flight is 8:50pm. Luggage will be sent to Narita using courier before I leave Tokyo.

I was initially thinking of returning back to Shinjuku to take the bus. But this would take 4hrs to reach airport. Now I'm considering taking train directly to Narita from Odawara but seems like a lot more expensive?

lilrex21 just to add another option, if price is a concern then u can take normal JR Tokaido Line (non Shinkansen) from Odawara. Train is frequent and much cheaper but of course a lot longer duration (around 1hr25min to Tokyo). Still not really cheap though, hyperdia says ¥5k+ for whole journey.

btw have you gone plum festival before? just one note, don't take the 'shuttle bus' from Odawara to the orchards - it's actually a normal bus which costs ¥500++++ whereas the train only costs ¥200.

it is faster to take NEX. at 4000yen for the round trip ticket, it is still cheaper than the limo bus.

u can use hakone pass to cover the trip back to Shinjuku, then take NEX to narita airport

I also planning to go Hakone in end March.

my plan is just to go there and buy from shinjuku the http://www.odakyu-travel.co.jp/eng/higaeri/14.08_15.03_higaeri_main.html

(1-day trip) 8,400yen

all transport covered, and got a onsen, seems good deal to me. got better options? I live nearer Tokyo station actually haha.

btw from Narita airport to go to Oshiage, the best and most cost effective route issit take Keisei limited to Aoto, then change?

lineMap.jpg

Hyperdia say take the following:

1. Keisei Narita Sky Access Exp. for KEISEI-UENO

AOTO

2. Keisei Oshiage Line Rapid for NISHI-MAGOME

What ticket should I buy, I'll get the 3-days unlimited ride one.. I think can use for "Keisei Oshiage Line Rapid" , then need to buy a "sky access/limited express" ticket right.

A significant portion of Hakone is closed due to volcanic activity..Owakudani is not accessible currently

Where can buy the adaptor in SG?

Bought simple adapter from neighbourhood bargain shop. Have to dig around a bit.

Also have those for multiple country use for price is higher of course. These are heavier and a little bulkier.

i wouldn't even bother. just put all your cash in your wallet (or split half with your partner/wife). japan is not like europe, there is neglible risk of getting pick-pocketed or robbed. and since you're renting whole apartment i also don't see any need to lock up your bags or whatever.

*disclaimer* of course, "low crime doesn't mean no crime" :) but i go japan carry 300-400k yen in cash without worrying one bit about it (some in wallet some in wife handbag some leave behind in unlocked luggage).
