Bought 2 of them to form a mesh network.
Issues:
- Smart TV having ethernet issues and unable to connect to the WiFi network, tested 2 TVs and the same
- Disabled the 2nd mesh node and issues immediately solved, all devices can go online
- Ethernet (Cat-6) on Gigabit switches connected are performing less than 12mb/s for file transfers which is a major issue
- Both XD4s are connected by gigabit ethernet cat-6 cable.
- Main XD4 is connected directly to WAN fibre modem
- Updated to the latest firmware

EDIT: Switched back to older router and ethernet issues completely resolve, getting 90-100mb transfers from my NAS on SMB/CIFS protocol..

ASUS's support isn't helping and no solutions so far.

On your point 4, you mentioned both units are connected with a gigabit LAN cable. I assume you mean you are using a wire backhaul? If so, I recommend using the wireless backhaul. I have read few reviews that mentioned that Asus mesh don’t work well with wired backhaul due to the way the software/firmware is designed (for wireless operation). Performance will take a hit switching to wireless backhaul because these are dual band mesh, but it may solve the issue.

Confirm both nodes are setup as one router and the other access point? It could be both nodes playing as router.
