The official japan meteorological agency only gives 7 day forecast for a few cities in each prefecture. For eg, if I search for Gifu prefecture weather, it only gives forecasts for Gifu and Takayama, cannot find Shirakawago. Am I missing something?

Too granular don't have, just like they dont predict Shinjuku within Tokyo.

It being the national weather agency, i expect more. Previously, mwanted to check kawaguchiko weather also cannot find under yamanashi.

Makes me wonder those accuweather and yahoo get their forecast for shirakawago and kawaguchiko from if the national agency does not even have them?

The smaller the areas of forecast, the more updates, the more fickle the weather, so in that sense, more unreliable as the weather one checked 30mins ago may totally change.

Similar to SG NEA weather, since when it is accurate?

can try asking those third party websites where they get their source from.

U should find under the district of where the place is located....for example....shirakawa is located under the Ono district in Gifu Ken..you should look under Shirakawa,Ono-Gun..if there's no Shirakawa..then Ono-gun will be fine

Can you show me how to get to Ono-Gun using the JMA link above? I can only get to Gifu.

i find a lot of weather info from apps to be quite inaccurate compared to jma, but jma will only give a detailed forecast up to 2 days in advance, and those forecasts out into the weak have a reliability rating from A-C...

jma's forecast for takayama is snow for thurs, cloudy for fri (40% rain), cloudy sat (40% reliability C), sun snow (50% reliability C), mon-wed snow (70% reliability B/A/B).

jma is known to change their forecast beyond the 2 days ahead very often, so it is always prudent to check regularly

weather prediction is an inexact science... a lot is based on computer modelling and those models are not very precise. it is impossible to narrow it down to a small village.'

if you die die must have a prediction for shirakawago, however inaccurate it may be, tenki.jp has the prediction

You may have a point about shirakawago being a small village but overall, i am just amazed that the JMA website gives prefectural Weather forecast only. If you look at Nara, it just gives the weather forecast for Nara, no smaller areas within Nara. Nara is easily 5 times singapore land area, can't believe the residents of Nara would just settle for a Nara prefectural weather forecast and not something narrower.

At first, I was incline to believe i didn't know how to use the JMA website rather than it lacks the information.

Kifo, you are in Japan. When you flip open the japanese newspapers, do they just give prefectural weather forecasts only or they provide forecast for cities as well?

Thks for posting. Other than the big regions on top, they do give the forecast for the major cities below like kobe, osaka, nagoya, etc.

these areas are all listed on JMA. in other words, they used JMA's info.
