Anyone has experience with claims from Europcar?

Long story short, have booked a car with Wahdah and opted for the pay later option (which means I have a confirmed order but cannot purchase the SLRO until I have paid). Then now, a little less then 1 month from my trip, they told me that due technical issues at their insurance company's website, they are unable to provide SLRO coverage for me, which means I need to bear an excess of RM20,000 for the car group that I selected. They have no other options for me to get full coverage and just told me to rent from someone else (bad first experience!)

So now, I urgently need to confirm a car. As I will be driving to Cameron Highlands with elderly and baby, and hearing that it is quite dangerous to drive in that area (prone to theft), I would like to get a full coverage (zero excess) that covers CDW and theft, as well as glass and tyres coverage and roadside assistance.

The policy wordings at Europcar is quite detailed, but did not state what is the excess and if I can get zero excess. It also doesn't tell me if their offices Malaysia provide coverage on glass and tyres etc.

I have written an email to them but would like to know asap if they have what I needed and if not, whether other car rental company has what I needed, cos really not a lot of time left to my trip. Anyone has any information or suggestion for me?

Appreciate your advice!

Did you call EuropCar? I assume you will pick up the vehicle at their JB office of Baguss Hotel, which has a phone number.

Thanks for sharing with us your experience.
Am thinking about renting a car in KL or simply just grab everywhere or renting a car in sg and drive up.

Driving in KL is a big no-no as the traffic jam can get very bad during peak hours near the city centre. I highly recommend to grab or take the mrt if you are just travelling within the city. Renting a car in sg can cost a lot more. In fact, if you just wish to stay in KL, regular buses from sg to kl are cheaper. If you want to travel out of KL, you can rent a car from KL as you don't need so many days = cheaper. My 2 cents worth :)

This thread has been about the various car rental companies accessible in JB. Using what is discussed here, you can summarise the options, pros and cons and things to look out for. What remains now is for you to make your own assessment against factors like rental rate and car availability.

This never occurred to me. I took over a rental car insight the Caltex station and returned to the same spot. How is it dangerous?

In sg the Ah bengs will try to chop you for scratches. Even though in the end they wont repair anything since the car is full of scratches alr.

Btw they dont have hourly renting tyoe like tribecar?

Have. It's called SOCAR. You can google. Have BMW and a wide range of models. One way rentals are quite useful.

Good tip. Pleasantly surprised to see that foreigners can sign up, and one-way (airport or inter-city) options are available.

Hi,

Does anyone has the latest update (after covid) on renting a car in JB for road trips? Which car rental co. is recommended?

4 years ago, I rented a car from Europcar at JB (along Jalan Wong Ah Fook road), car was decent but upon return, their staff checked the car like NS stand by bed. Small scratch and said I need to pay $XXX. Felt like they are out to rip me off. Eventually, paid and left.

So now, hope to hear from kind folks who can recommend an honest and reliable car rental co. in JB.

I didn't rent in JB before but travelled quite a bit pre Covid and rented overseas. Buy travel insurance or additional insurance for car rentals to reduce the excess to a minimum amount or zero.
Last time they charged me for all sorts of rubbish, I said just charge (they can charge up to the excess amount anyway), I paid the rental co and claimed my money back from my own insurance. Takes time and a bit of paperwork. If you want to save time, just pay more at the rental co counter.

most rental company when you return your car, they will look at your contract. If you decline full coverage upon pick-up, they will check every small corner to find fault and bill you. If they see you accept their full coverage they will just take a quick glance and off you go.

I actually took up the extra coverage yet still got scam. Looks like they are really hard up at this co. Happened in JB n Penang.
