Interviewee didn't spell SAF out fully. The FT of course would have queried.

hmm ya ok but why put the 2 yr of NS in resume? dont make sense
Some of them might have served in SAF/Mindef office, rather than chiong sua. So the NS experience may be in some way relevant to the job they applied. And also some foreigners, especially angmohs, do respect military experience as a whole.

It is obviously sinkie's fault again.

Who the hell puts "SAF" in their resume, and don't spell it out? You don't put such strange acronyms in your resume.
"Compulsory military service in the Singapore Armed Forces", or something to that effect, would have been sufficient even for foreign human resource personnel ignorant to the obligation.

Or the entire spiel could have been a ruse to discount the local's application in favour of a foreign applicant.

Usually the hiring manager is foreign while HR is local. But decision lies with the foreign hiring manager.

If you want to put army history in your resume then you should write it this way “SAF (IAF)”. Most foreign HR will understand what it means.
