Moi also find it questionable. It’s not that sinkie has a legal surrogacy system till it makes you question the biological ties of a baby born here. A baby born in sinkie will has record of who gives birth eg birth certificate and hospital records. Even the multiple records of the times the nurses verify the ic number of the patient. So it’s really a hassle having an adoption process when you already clearly know who is the mother of the baby. Unless they want to give business to lawyers. For an unwed mum to decide to give birth to a baby is already a bravery act. All this adoption thing will just affect the mental health of the new mother.

Ts, are you just curious about this topic or you really have a daughter/son without marriage? I mean there are so many things to keep us occupied, this is one of the most unlikely topic that has anything to do with us?

Shouldn't we be asking why give birth without marriage? Or why keep the baby is marriage is not possible between the father and mother of the child?

Simon ex-wife also give birth to her daughter, look what happen? This process is to ensure that the woman is serious. The man had already confirm don't want the child, if the woman is not determine, then might as well give up else later take it out on the children.
This is a microcosm is what happens in service industry. U make a rule that say A. Someone who thinks B is better will complain. You change to B. Someone who thinks A is better will complain

you decide - use discretion. Both A and B will bantam depending on who got inconvenienced

Just import migrants at working age, and convert to sg citizens. Instant noodle method.

No need headache with solving the strawberry problems like what building new schools, preschool, school registration, school bullying, missing teenagers, etc. unwed mothers' baby adoption or not and waste resources in this area. Maybe also can downsize MOE.

I think it’s more of the govt doesn’t want to make it “easy “ cos girls can just give birth any how and claim benefits while not married and won’t be married. Would be unfair to the child also

if married, at least it’s a complete family
If widowed, it’s really mybfd a tragedy
If unwed mother, it’s something easy to solve by getting married to the father or just give the child up for adoption- if the biological mother adopts the child, at least an assessment was done to address the suitability of it
What's the point of making it "difficult"?

Like the person knows about this? Do you know about this until this article?

Any what do you mean by give birth "any how" and claim benefit?

Benefit is meant for the child, not the marriage so the "won't be married" should not be a concern to begin with.

In the same vein, housing benefits are given to married couples without plans to have children so why would it be less justifiable for a single parent and child to obtain housing benefit as compared to a married couple without intentions to have any?

The 35-year-old, who declined to give her full name, had been dating her child's biological father for six months when she found out she was pregnant.

Her ex made it clear that he did not want to have anything to do with their child – emotionally or materially.
Think if not wrong, even if the other party say don't want responsible, its not legally admissable in certain sense.

Correct if wrong...

In the legal aspect, its an illegitimate child when born out of wedlock. So unless the parent are subsequently married. If not, will have to legally adopt the child to legally severe the parental rights and obligations of the other biological parent, to avoid custody and access issue later, in case the other party want to U-turn. Its for own protection in the legal aspect.

And if not wrong, if don't have will, the illegitimate child will not have auto rights to the inheritence under the intestacy laws. Only adoption can grant the child full legal rights as legitimate heir.

Thus, think due to certain lacking in the legal aspect. Which do not recognise illegitimate child in some legal matters. Can only adopt to grant the child the full legal rights. Nothing against the biological bond. Just some legality recognition issues when come to certain rights.

The subjects did not exercise self-control and common sense that gave rise to the unplanned pregnancy. Their future parenting abilities should be scrutinized and their IQ accessed. Taxpayers should not be burdened with such irresponsible behavior; resources should only be allocated to deserving citizens who are in predicaments due to factors beyond their means and control.

Already got example in the news that an unwed mother became a grandmother at a very young age.
Then the cycle keeps repeating one. 6 generations when the person is 80yo. Other then reproducing, they cannot do anything else.

Some FT syndicates will force FT women to come and get themselves pregnant and pretend to be 'victims of circumstances'. No different from human trafficking and smuggling to benefit themselves from gahmen coffers lor.

Some local women shared that they dont want to get married to low ses men when they can easily get ONS raw to become a mother...

And this has a lot of legal implications on the sperm 'donator' wealth via divorce.

Sure a not? Those granted with sole care and control with temporary PR still can work and remit marnee back and leech the state benefits. Often the court grants these FT mothers the custody or sole care and control just because your baby is a female and look at the ratio of DJ gender as well in FJC.

Unless the FT woman run road, the dads will not get the custody.

Why is it that when a baby is born in a completed marriage, there is no need for adoption? But when it happens to an unwed mother, she needs to go through the dreadful legal process of adoption? For unwed mothers, they have to tackle so many issues on their own and this adoption thing is just an add on. 🥵 If the unwed mother is just a commoner, she is going to face head on a lot of financial difficulties so the legal fee for adoption is another additional cost. The father of the child is already a jerk so what’s the point of keep on clinging on him for the custody. He is just someone who provide the sperm and nothing else. If sinkie has a sperm bank, he just a sperm donor, that’s it.

When people come up with policies, they have majority in mind. Singapore is still conservative so there are still “penalties” for such behaviour

Now, if DINKs are going to be a big thing in the future, they might revise policy if there is a way that doesn’t discriminate couples who plan to have kids. For example, two couples. Unless one openly declares we will be DINK and confirm chop won’t have kids, I don’t see how the govt can tweak policies. In the same vein, couples with children are also no guarantee they will work in Singapore in the future so should the benefits be clawed back?
