Consolidated thread - 2024 Macbook Pro M4 series

I regularly have to crunch Excel spreadsheets containing 500,000 or more rows in a single tab. My daily driver is a 10th gen Core i7 Win10 laptop with 96GB memory with dedicated SSD storing all my work files, and even with this spec, some operations on the spreadsheet sometimes can take 20+ seconds or more.
Will running the same Excel on a M4 MBA with 16GB memory offer any performance improvements?

The MBP 14" with M1 Pro still speedy as ever after a fresh install of Sequoia, very good display with MiniLED and speakers. On the other hand the M4 MBA, is newer with a M4 chip, WiFi 6E and a lot lighter but with weaker sounding speakers and IPS Panel. Anyone facing the same situation as me? Either return the MBA M4 or sell the MBP 14".

I used to have the MBP 14 M1 Pro, and sold it for M2 MBA base model.
really enjoyed the portability and form factor of the MBA. But from time to time, i will miss the nice screen and speakers of the MBP 14 M1 Pro. But the savings from the MBA M2 is even sweeter, the MBP 14 M1 cost more than twice the MBA M2.

but now given that there is M4 macbook pro, and at only 1.8K on the Apple refurbished store, i think the MBPs are good option now.

I sold my M1 Pro and decided to keep the M4 MBA. It was a solid good 3 years run with the MBP.

same situation as you. I'm using MBP 14" M1 Pro, thinking of switching to a lighter model. Tried the MacBook Air in-store, the speakers and screen definitely lose out to the Pro version. Processor wise, don't think there is a very big difference between M4 and M1 Pro.

I have just sold my MBP M4 for $1850.

Getting ready to buy MBA M4 with 512GB SSD. Should be arriving next Wednesday.

same situation as you. I'm using MBP 14" M1 Pro, thinking of switching to a lighter model. Tried the MacBook Air in-store, the speakers and screen definitely lose out to the Pro version. Processor wise, don't think there is a very big difference between M4 and M1 Pro.

i see thanks. Hand itchy like thinking of downgrading too to M4 Air. But then, I like the screen and speakers. I don't need super powerful processors. This is my secondary computer though, for me to bring out and use on bed to watch some shows.

I have a primary desktop PC for my general usage. Need something more light, but don't want to give up the speakers and screen haha. Have been using MBP M1Pro for 2 years liao, so not possible for me to downgrade, like downgrading from 120hz to 60hz screen.

Does apple has trade in program? Where did u sell the MBP? I still have apple care+ till next year and I not sure how it works if I sell it away.

You can get the refund from the the AppleCare. I sold on carousel. The trade in price for MacBook quite cui. Have to source for ppl to buy.
