Quite the contrary, when Putin became president in his first term he was pro west. He himself wanted to join NATO and even claimed Russia will always be part of Europe. That was never up for debate. He even approached NATO head and went to Bill Clinton to express interest, he asked how come never invite Russia join NATO. If Russia had joined NATO, who is the enemy? Who gonna buy weapons?

Such important negotiations are usually done in private, not staged like a free circus show for the media. There has to be a point in demonstrating disagreement, perhaps for Putin to witness.

It was a lost war to begin with. The US under Biden simply needed a reason to sell arms and stoke conflict, Ukraine handed them one.

Russia under Putin will never back down short of being invaded by Western Europe and the US themselves, and neither of those two want to do that. I was expecting a year or two max before resolution. It's now been three years, and the longer it drags, the more animosity the Ukrainians and Russians will have for each other. Pretty bad deal for the folks living in that part of the world.

Zelenskyy is crafty. Now he's put the US in a double or nothing situation; they back out now and they risk losing whatever is owed to them. They continue, the debt increases with no real promise of payback either.

Seeing how much utter destruction the country has experienced, my take is that Zelenskyy is possibly the worst President they could have gotten. Pushed for NATO, gave Russia an excuse to invade, picked a losing fight, and now his entire nation is in tatters. And he still wants to continue.

Guy's pockets must be crazy fat from kickbacks now. Wonder why the Russians haven't straight up bombed whatever house he's living in, that would end the war within weeks.
